Dr Clouser to Speak at Christ Church 100th Anniversary

Paul E R Clouser of Middleport Pa will be the third speaker for Christ Church Lutheran’s 100th anniversary events on December 7 in Carey Ohio. The visit honors his long pastorate from 1926 to 1941 and includes an informal vesper service and coffee hour.

Blue Devils Fall to Mohawk in Cage Opener

Mohawk defeated Carey 61 to 43 as the Mohawk offense shot 46 percent to Carey’s 28. Bob Hufford led Mohawk with 18 points, Adelsperger 14, Sigler and Bell 10 each. Ten Kittens In Grady's Latest Litter

The Leonard Brandt family plans to give away Grady's latest litter of ten kittens. Grady has produced sixty kittens in five or six years, with Dennis Brandt helping feed the extra kittens using a doll’s nursing bottle.

French I Club Holds November Meeting Plans Christmas Gift Exchange

The French I Club opened its November session under President Tom Greer and discussed Christmas plans including a novelty gift exchange and a $12 donation to the Retarded Children's Fund. Caroling is set for December 18 with an invitation to the club to join. Cindy Pace led the program with games and refreshments followed.

Kiwanis Club Debates Fruit Cakes and Christmas Baskets

Kiwanis members report progress on selling fruit cakes to aid the School for Retarded Children. The December meeting also covers the Christmas basket project for needy families with George Snyder leading the committee. Officers-elect and chairmen are urged to attend a training conference in Lima. Clyde Jenkins introduced a film about a Communist youth’s awakening and a tour of Swift and Co packing plant.

Guidance Discussed On P T A Program In Carey

The Carey PTA met Monday evening November 24 with Rev. Frank Ferguson delivering the invocation. Attendance banner won by Nancy Buess second grade Colonel Crawford School. Attendance reported 310 members to date. Douglas W. Myers submitted a report on the State House Conference on Education attended by 40 000 in Columbus October 28. William N. Heath, school guidance director, spoke on The Place of Guidance in the Total School Program. He outlined pupil record, informational, counseling, placement, adjustment, and research services and noted the need for a well rounded program in the modern age. President William Hershman praised the program. Refreshments served by the November committee. An upcoming December 18 gym meeting will feature a physical education program.

Overheated Furnace Causes Fire at Findlay Street Home

Carey volunteers battled a 2 am blaze at 673 East Findlay Street when an overheated coal furnace set the floor above alight. Firemen found charred floor boards, but damage remained minor as residents evacuated to a neighbor’s home. An on scene siren switch caused the old siren to blare at maximum for ten minutes at Municipal Building.

Funeral services held Tuesday at Rootsand Funeral Home in Dayton for Mark Meeks 23 native of Wharton who died November 29 from a heart ailment. He was the son of Mrs Hope Campbell Meeks and the late Carl Meeks. Survived by his wife two children a brother Marion a sister Mrs Phillip Durilles Dayton and grandmother Mrs Mollie Meeks Wharton.

Banquet Honors Departing Missionary in Carey

A midday banquet at the Catholic Hall in Carey honors Father Christopher Granger OFM Conv as he prepares to depart for Franciscan missions in Northern Rhodesia Africa. The Carey High School Band will perform a Christmas Concert on Sunday December 14 at 230 pm in the school auditorium. The program features varied holiday music with a snare drum trio and a trombone trio and is open to the public.

Fire destroys Alvin Saltzman home in Biglick township

Fire early Sunday morning completely destroyed the farm home of Mr and Mrs Alvin Saltzman and seven children on Base Line road five miles northwest of Carey in Biglick township. Fire discovered between 2 and 2 30 by sons Clair and David from a defective chimney. Only a few clothing items and some downstairs furniture saved. Family staying with relatives. insurance partially covers loss.
