Carey Merchants Offer One of Biggest Holiday Bargain Festivals

Carey invites shoppers to a grand Christmas event with a large tree display in front of the Strand theatre and strung with tinsels and lights. A free children’s show is planned at the Strand on December 24 at 2 30 pm. Santa Claus is expected to arrive that day with candy for every child. About 1300 extra Carey Times will be mailed to promote the sale.

High School Variety Evening and Activities Recap

The Monday program featured devotionals read by Virginia Patterson, a Ruth Riester piano solo, and vocal duets by Alton Kinsinger and Dell Mathern. The quartet sang, lessons included a John Brown reading, and Arnholt spoke on the Christmas seal drive.

Carey High Opens Basketball Season at Sycamore

Carey High prepares for its first basketball games, girls and boys, against Sycamore Friday night December 12. The Sycamore team has opened its season with speed, and Carey fans expect a large turnout. Coaches Bollinger and Fries lead promising squads, with the girls aided by recent food material and the boys rebuilding after losing two regulars.

Death of Mrs. Winifred Karr in Salem township church funeral

Mrs. Winifred Karr died Friday night at 9 39 at her sister Miss Lina Davidson’s home four miles south of town after a brief illness of heart trouble. Funeral Mass at St Josephs church with burial in Ritchie cemetery. Survived by son Mark H Karr and sister Miss Lina Davidson. The Davidson family and local groups attended the services.

Mrs Clara Straw and her daughter Miss Christine attended the funeral for Mrs Emma Straw Eichelberger in Urbana. Eichelberger died Saturday and was a well known resident of Carey, daughter of the late David Straw.

Findlay youths mourned after icy reservoir tragedy

Three Findlay boys aged 16 and a fourth youth who helped rescue them died after plunging into icy waters near the city reservoir. Firefighters police and first aid crews assisted amid efforts using inhalators oxygen adrenalin and lung motors.

Prince of Peace Declam Contest Held in Wyandot County

The annual Prince of Peace declamation contest for Wyandot County will take place at a local church Sunday afternoon. County winners from prior oratorical contests will compete to represent Wyandot at the northwest district level, then Columbus for state honors in January. Sponsored by the Ohio Pastors convention, the event is open to high school age youths, with medals cash awards and university scholarships for winners.

Reinhart Family Attends Funeral of Mrs Catherine Elchert

S and Mrs Anna Reinhart attended the funeral of their aunt Mrs Catherine Elchert at St John’s church in Defiance. Elchert would have turned ninety this December if she had lived, and died Tuesday of old age. She was sister to Mrs Mary Ann Reinhart of West Street Carey, in her ninety third year.

Carey men to take part in Handel Messiah at OWU

Donald Kurtz of 225 West Findlay street and Clayton Shuman of Carey join the Gray Chapel performance of Handel Messiah at Ohio Wesleyan University. The event Sunday evening December 14 is directed by Prof. G Raymond Hicks with Kurtz in the chorus and Shuman in the orchestra.

Repairing Crossings On Big Four Tracks For School Bus Safety

Work has begun on repairing the Big Four crossings to make them safe for Carey school buses. The roads are being widened to allow tracks and five crossings require a five foot fill, necessitating erosion of the roads back about 150 feet.
