The Blue Devil Marching Band shifts from pop skits to refined rhythm and harmony after the football season. December 1 concert in view with 513 members. Mr Hawk leads a 30 member orchestra. 90 students in Concert and Cadet Bands with 65 in weekly private and group lessons.
Pep bands are being organized to play for basketball games and a high school dance. A Cadet or Junior Band is planned for pupils in grades five through eight who study instrumental music.
The Caryatid staff works toward a yearbook of local interest. Bob Detwiler leads as staff editor and business manager. Jane Mitchell and Charles Smith serve as assistant editors. A E Wohlers sponsors the project again. Local merchants support with ads and donations.
On November 23 seventh graders held their first class party in the cafeteria with a Thanksgiving themed decor and potluck supper. Entertainment skits were presented by Rus sell Myers as chairman Nancy Koons Elizabeth Gariner Richard Snook and Grover Stoll. Prizes went to Shirley Keller and Doris Tucker. Class officers are John Romig president Richard Snook vice president and Shirley Keller secretary treasurer. Advisors are Mrs Ruby Criger and Mr Ralph Sampson.
Teachers released the report cards for the second six weeks as the school year continues. The message notes the term is flying by with only four more six-week periods remaining in the term.
The Philathea class of Memorial EY will meet with Myrtle Perkins on Tuesday evening December 14. Mrs. George Krider will be hostess. Officers will be elected and a 250 Christmas gift exchange will take place.
Members of the P. R. S. club and their husbands will share a potluck supper at the home of Mr and Mrs Robert Mott three miles northeast of Carey at 6:30 Sunday evening. A Christmas exchange will also take place.
Recent brides include Mrs Edward Franz formerly Mildred Lonsway who wed November 20 at Our Lady of Consolation Shrine Church and Barbara Orians who married Charles Mathern November 25 at the same church. Photographs by Newhard Studio.
The Central Ohio Heart Association launches a campaign against heart disease, led by Dr Howard L Bevis of Ohio State University, with headquarters in Columbus. The drive seeks 5 million dollars for research education and community services to combat heart ailments, noting heart disease kills about one in three Americans. Rheumatic fever is highlighted as a major contributor to heart disease in children, with high mortality risk. The effort spans Wyandot and 51 counties under Dr Kissane, president of the association.

The Dorcas Bible class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Friday evening at 7 30 in Mrs Rose Diller's home on BH Findlay street. Hostesses Mrs Naomi Hunter and Mrs Ethe lyn Hellopeter will assist. A 50 cent Christmas exchange is planned and members are asked to bring items for the Worthington Christmas box. An election of officers will also be held.
Major Leon Kettzing of Toledo and son in law of me and Wing William Pontius of Carey is on active duty. He sailed November 27 from a California port for Guam. He served in World War II and volunteered for active service about three weeks ago.
The Vanlue Schools P T A will meet on December 14 at 8:00 pm. A white elephant sale is planned. The same evening a pancake supper will run from 5:30 to 7:30.
Mrs. Clarence Gamel on High Street first called to identify a previously published house photo from The Caféy Times. The residence, prior to 1893, belonged to Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Gibbs and is now Bristoll funeral home at 214 W Findlay Street after extensive remodeling.
Palm Leaf Rebekah lodge will meet Tuesday December 14 at 7 30 p m for officers election. This annual Christmas party invites all Rebekahs and families. Gift exchange priced 25 to 29 cents and a treat for all. December social committee includes Mrs Clarence McCormick Mrs Arden Heilman Mrs Joseph Dible Mrs Lawrence Smith Mrs Leroy Rettig Miss Marie Holden Levon Wisner and Clarence McCormick.
An 8 year old boy Joey Doran son of Mr and Mrs Walter Doran east of Carey received a train and track set as a first prize in the Coco-Wheat Happy Hank program broadcast on WRED Worthington. He sent a joke and a box top and earned a certificate of congratulations. Joey is a second grader at Col Crawford school.
The McCutchenville F F A chapter asks for scrap donations with a drive on December 8 1948. Residents should gather newspapers magazines and scrap iron for pick up by work mentors to benefit the F B A treasury.
The Wesleyan Guild of the Methodist church invites all to a Christmas party on December 123 at 6 30 p m in the church parlors. A potluck meal and a 25 cent gift exchange will be held.
Members and friends of the Eagles are invited to a New Years party at their hall Saturday night January 1, 1949 at 8 00 o clock. Dancing to Hindall's orchestra.
Mrs. Harry D Wilbar of Baltimore provided a generous gift to Christ Lutheran Church of Carey in memory of her mother Emila Royer wife of late Dr. Royer a Carey physician. The donation of one thousand dollars was presented by Rev Wade H Koons at the church anniversary service and entered into church records as a lasting memorial to Mrs Royer.
An 8 pound 11 ounce boy named Robert Joseph was born Thursday at 12 noon to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Reinhart of Fostoria, with Doris Roof as the mother’s maiden name and ties to Carey. A 6 pound 8 ounce girl named Penny Lynn arrived Friday at 6 54 a m to Mr. and Mrs. Dean Roynon of Grove Street, with Elsie Myers as the mother’s maiden name and Crawford as the paternal grandmother location. Penny Lynn has three great grandparents listed: Mrs. Mary Karr near Crawford and Harlan Roynon, the father’s grandfather.

Fullback Bill Rigot and right halfback Wayne Zahn of Case Tech are co-winners of the Les Bale award for the football squad. Ray Mack presented the trophy to the two players, recognizing them as the most valuable members of the team.

Captain T R Huston of Company D 7th Medical Battalion 7th Division earned a meritorious achievement decoration from General Dean in Korea. He helped treat 35 dead and 70 injured after a Nov 11 train wreck near Taijan and Seoul, working from 8 PM to 1 AM without proper supplies, then sailed home December 7. Huston is son of Mr and Mrs W H Huston of Carey. his brother Clarence was killed in France.
Wyandot County Agriculture Society names six directors and sets the 1949 county fair for September 13 to 16. Cedric Beard is elected to fill the Crawford township seat. Forrest Hurd retires. Re-elected directors include R A Pusset BHugene Swerlein E C Ortans A J Leightey and Karl F Kraus.
Careyteria No 2198 Fraternal Order of Eagles announces district initiation this Sunday afternoon December 12 at the Eagles hall. All members urged to bring candidates. Refreshments served and Hindall's orchestra of Findlay will provide music for dancing in the evening.
The Woman's Music club of Upper Sandusky presents the Messiah on Sunday evening December 12 at 8 o'clock in the Evangelical United Brethren church in Upper Sandusky.

Carey Blue Devils lost to Bluffton 39 to 31 on the local hardwood. Risner led Carey with 11 points while Berardinelli added 10. Schmidt led Bluffton with 13. Carey players were sidelined by fouls and scholastic standings, and the team faces Mt Gilead and Marysville in next league games.
The Bluffton College Choral Society will perform Messiah on Sunday evening December 6 at the South Side Church of Christ in Lima and again Sunday afternoon December 12 at 2 30 o clock in Bluffton high school gymnasium.
