The 1941 42 school term opens next Tuesday with an 8 15 a m start in all buildings. Rural students should bring noon lunches and may be dismissed earlier on the first day. The teachers meeting is set for Monday at 8 p m. Changes in teaching staff include Miss Jane Stoner resigning after marriage. her Col Crawford building third grade post remains vacant.
Prospective enrollment totals for Carey High School as of August 28 1941 show 12th grade 50 students 11th grade 67 10th grade 74 9th grade 71 8th grade 42 and 7th grade 65 bringing total registration to 369 students.
Pupils in lower grades must bring specified supplies and upper grades will be guided by teachers on individual workbook needs. Workbooks cost plus 10 percent for shipping. items include Peter and Peggy 27c, Round the Year 27c, Large pencil tablet, Eagle pencil 3 1/5c, Crayonex No 3, blunt scissors, paste receptacle, rulers, Number Workbook 30c, Grade Two Number Workbook 35c, English Workbook 25c, Friendly Stories 27c, Pencil eraser Crayonex No 3. Last year's erasers may be used.
A village council reserves a new 10 foot all steel bike rack purchased by the Carey theatre. The rack is for orderly bicycle parking and open to any user from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m daily. Owners may lock bikes with a chain if desired.
Five Vanlue youths earned prizes in the farm shop division at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus. Richard Robinette won first with a bench hook and second with a tool carrier, John Ackerman took second with a chicken feeder, Paul George placed third with a saw horse, Earl Bright earned second with a milk stool and second with a wheelbarrow, and Clair Oman finished eighth with a peck of Thorne wheat.
Miss Joan Ruffing and Miss Joan Kramer entered nurse training at Mercy hospital on Tuesday. Miss Betty Kitzler will leave next Tuesday for Columbus to start training at Grant hospital. All three graduated from Carey high school last May.
The United States flag was dedicated by the C I C class of the Sunday school at Carey Memorial Evangelical church. The Christian flag was presented by Elza Jacobs in memory of his late wife.
The Philathea class has postponed its social scheduled for Tuesday September 2. The new date will be announced later.
The Ohio conference of the Evangelical church closed its 104th session at Detroit Avenue Evangelical Church Toledo. Rev. B L Lee was returned to Carey Memorial Evangelical Church for another year and the Carey church saw growth in membership and finances. Several clergy moves followed with pastors reassigned to Benton Ridge Bucyrus Marion Belmore Upper Sandusky Akron Findlay and other communities. W W Shisler served as conference secretary and C L Allen became western district superintendent.

This week we publish a list of addresses of Carey young men in military training. We will print missing addresses later or when received and publish any address changes when transfers occur.
The Carey Philharmonic society will hold its first meeting of the year next Tuesday evening September 2 at Nine Oaks roadside park near Upper Sandusky. Members bring a covered dish silver and sandwiches and the name of a prospective member. For information call Secretary Mrs Zack Montgomery.
Paul Powell of Powell Insurance will relocate his office on September 1 from the Newhard block second floor to a room in the Keller block. The new location is in the front portion of the room used by Walborn's bowling alleys.
Barney Coldiron traded a 40 acre Springville farm for Joseph Petrie s 120 acre holding one mile north of Adrian. The deal was arranged by John Ris ner, a real estate broker.
Joseph Derr the 19 year old son of Mr and Mrs Herman Derr of southwest of Carey is in Columbus this week as Wyandot counties healthiest boy at the state fair.
J Mason Smith Karl Kraus and Mahlon McBride led a Carey Community club meeting. Rev Fr McKeowen spoke from Spain about Franco and Nationalist Spain with anecdotes from his 1938 trip. A plan for the county corn husking contest was set with Mark Karr as general chairman and Ralph Heck Ralph Brown Allan Baker to form committees and arrange a field site.
Erma Yost daughter of Mr and Mrs M C Yost east of Carey will represent Wyandot county at the state fair as healthiest girl. She competes after Mary Jane Martin of Sycamore who won the honor but opted for packing a suitcase instead and did not take vaccination or typhoid immunization.
Howard Ward of Grove street was rushed to Findlay hospital Sunday after losing consciousness at the stone quarry. W. R. Evans of south of Carey also went to Findlay for an X ray on Monday afternoon.
Construction has begun on a 10 room residence for Thomas A. Beckwith on W North Street in the Beckwith subdivision.
John P. Janus of the agriculture department outlined a food stamp plan set to begin in Wyandot County on September 15. About 600 public assistance families will participate, buying orange stamps and receiving blue stamps to boost purchasing power and create a domestic market for American farm products.
Dr C O Ewing of Boston head of United Drug Co research spoke at Carey Kiwanis about how past and present wars affect industry with emphasis on drug and chemical sectors. A Labor Day program is planned for the next meeting on Monday evening in September and all members are urged to attend.
Harry Donley of Wharton was hospitalized in San Antonio after a collision three miles east of Wharton at a cross road. He drove a Chevrolet and collided with a Ford V-8 driven by Mrs Edith Kingman of Forest. Donley suffered four broken ribs a broken collar bone and possible internal injuries while Kingman was unhurt.
The Times presents a framed photo showing Big Four section gangs from 1906 or 1907 near Carey on a switch by Gray and Vance streets. Foremen William Faber and Harve Cole are named with crew members including Herschel High Henry Faber Adam Faber and others. Faber plans to work at least another year.
Mt Gilead's new sewage disposal plant nears completion and will operate in days. Construction began August 1940 by Harry Strodtbeck of Mt Vernon at a cost of 13 000 dollars. A new system by Charles Lewis of Harpster, a former Ohio lieutenant governor, enables 200 000 gallons daily, twice the current intake, though not yet officially approved by the state health department. The plant has seen successful use at Lebanon for several months.
F F A boys from the Carey schools traveled to the Ohio state fair on Friday and planned to stay over Saturday. Exhibits included poultry by Herbert Lortz Jr Dale Lowery Richard Wright and potatoes by Daryl Margraff Franklin Elchert. Bob and Ted Wonder accompanied the group.
John Campbell formerly of Carey resides with his daughter Dr Esther Campbell in Oklahoma City. He spent last week with his son in law and daughter and Mrs B F Kitzler. On Sunday he visited Urbana to stay with Mr and Mrs Ernest Kitzler. He plans to spend several months in Ohio.
Bernard W Denning manager of the Carey theatre left Saturday for a two week motor tour of the East. His itinerary includes Washington DC Philadelphia Atlantic City Providence Boston and points in New Hampshire and Maine. Denning will be gone two weeks.
Notice to taxpayers in Wyandot County that the June tax banks will close on September 10 1941 after which a penalty will be added. Charles B Martin Wyandot County Treasurer.
The Past Chiefs of the Pythian Sisters will meet at noon on Thursday September 4 in Castle Hall. They will hold the previously planned chicken dinner at that time.
Charlotte's meaty shop will be closed all next week from September 1 to September 8 as an urban business notice states the temporary shutdown.

Billie Jean Ward, 17, son of Virgil and [Mrs.] Ward, from the E S Burson farm near Carey, wins the vocational agriculture grand championship for steers at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus with 14 month old Aberdeen Angus Mac. It places 5th in open class. Ward uses olive oil on the steer. Burson Ward herd originated five years ago with a sire from an international grand champion line.
Harry Myers, secretary of the Carey Farmers and Sportsmen Protective association, protests to the state conservation department that railroads use a poison chemical on rights of way. He cites four members counting 34 dead rabbits within two miles of New York Central Lines tracks, indicating wildlife harm in the area.
Clarence Tucker presided over a regular meeting of Justus Lodge No. 393 Knights of Pythias at Castle Hall. After roll call and remarks for the good of the order the lodge was closed. The next meeting is set for Tuesday evening September 2 at Castle Hall with important business to be discussed.
The Mary Martha class of Christ Lutheran Sunday school will hold a rummage sale in the church basement on Friday and Saturday, September 5 and 6, starting at 9 00 a.m. Bargains on display attract contributions. notify Mrs Earl B Driver, class president, to arrange pickup.
Carey fire department responded to a Wednesday morning garage blaze believed caused by a short circuit in the wiring. Firefighters extinguished the fire with chemical agents, leaving only minor hood paint damage.
Mr and Mrs Forrest Hurd and Mr and Mrs Murray Pines express gratitude to the Carey fire department for prompt action and strenuous work saving nearby buildings during their barn fire and to friends and neighbors for sympathy and aid.
Pvt John Starkey mails a handsome panoramic view of Camp Wolters Texas to his mother Mrs John Laird of St Paterson Street showing his current station and assignment with the Army unit.
Mr and Mrs Leo Fisher plan to relocate from Marietta. Mr Fisher will teach Latin French and English at the local high school.
