Carey public schools report record enrollment this year at 732 students, up from 700 last year. Grade breakdown shows 1st 67, 2nd 51, 3rd 60, 4th 67, 5th 67, 6th 49, 7th 64, 8th 45, 9th 77, 10th 81, 11th 60, 12th 44, with 36 in elementary and 371 in high school.
The Carey board of education funds a new recreational center at the west end of the athletic field for tennis, hurdy, badminton, volleyball, and shuffleboard. It will run two weekly evening sessions under physical education staff with separate times for girls and women and for boys and men. The plan invites all district residents to participate and reflects a belief that expanded play reduces delinquency.
A Leghorn hen at the Knaup farm six miles north of Carey laid an egg marked with a V shape during an Axis aid campaign effort. Discovered August 21 while sorting eggs for sale to the Fostoria Produce store, the egg displays a distinct V ridge. The store plans to send the egg to Ripley for Believe It or Not, following a photo in the Fostoria Times.
The Carey 4-H club will hold a bake sale on Saturday September 6 at Dible's shop. Baked goods cottage cheese and baked beans will be sold. Proceeds will support the club's donation to the Carey Community Chest.
The theatre division of the U S O designates this week for the Utah S O collection. Collections started Sunday at the Carey theatre and continue through the week with the total to be announced later in The Carey Times.
The Mary Martha class of Christ Lutheran Sunday school will hold a rummage sale in the church basement on Friday and Saturday, September 5 and 6, starting at 9:00 am. A wide selection of bargains will be on display.

The Wyandot county shock and standing corn husk competition will be held Thursday October 9 at the E Burson farm northwest of Carey. County Agent C R Crum led a planning meeting at Allan Baker home with local men and school representatives. About 50 workers will man the event and high school boys will take part under Fred Abel, with support from the Carey Farmers Community club, Carey Kiwanis and Earl Green Post of the American Legion.

The Carey Times lists Moose Lodge social events for September with Red Star Cowboys Buckeye Entertainers Rhythm Ramblers and Hiram Berry and his Blackberries plus an open date. All acts suit both round and square dancing though last minute orchestra shifts are possible.

Don Hunter purchased a new %-ton Dodge truck featuring a flat rack and stake sides for work use.
Mayor B M Bachar and four councilmen met with state highway officials in Columbus to discuss widening and resurfacing N Vance Street. Officials said work could not start until next spring as plans are prepared for the project next year. They denied Route 23 relocation from Carey to the resurfaced road through New Riegel, confirming the current route will handle traffic.
Notre Dame enrolls 950 freshmen for the 1949 50 academic year with students from 46 states and 5 foreign countries. Paul A Theis of S Vance Street is among the new class. The entering group shows interest in economics politics and modern languages while majors in accounting engineering and law are popular. A naval reserve officers training corps will be started and reflects global concerns shaping course selection.
Mrs Johnny Nelson and daughter Vonita Vaughn returned from Georgia where Mr Nelson was seriously injured as a passenger when another car hit their vehicle. He remains in a cast and will be bedridden for months after removal in about three weeks.
The Carey Kiwanis club will hold a regular meeting on Monday September 8 at 6 15 pm at Isaly s with the music committee organizing the program The local club plans to attend the Kiwanis district meeting at Fremont on Thursday September 18 and urges all members to arrange attendance Publicity Committee
Harold Henderson appointed to teach 3rd grade at the Col William Crawford building to fill the vacancy from Mrs Charles Long’s resignation. Henderson earned a BS in Education from Muskingum College New Concord and has four years of elementary teaching experience.
Carey resident Mrs Golda Cole accepts contract from The Hollywood Recording Studio in Hollywood California for publication and sale of her song poem The Girl Back Home to be sung by Hollywood concert artists.
The ELCE of Memorial Evangelical church held an open air camp fire service at Carey Park Sunday evening for the consecration of the new conference year. Mrs. B. L. Lee led the gathering.

The Rev M Paul Paetznick of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Lucas has accepted a call to Christ Lutheran Church and expects to arrive around October 1. The congregation has been without a pastor since Rev Paul R Clouser left last April.

Carey Aerie No 2198 of the Eagles sponsors a five day fair and home-coming at the carnival grounds on W North Street from Monday September 15 to Saturday September 20. The Three Macks from Valley City headline with a weeklong program featuring young performers ages 9 12 and 15 along with the Carey Schools band half hour concert nightly. The event includes a carnival shows rides and prizes with a merchandise display at Theis Furniture Exchange on W Findlay.
Leo Fisher reports changes in Ohio licenses from the state conservation department. The hook and line fishing license now runs January 1 1942 to February 28 1943, with future years shifting to March 1 to February 28. The 1941 fishing license expires December 31 1941. The hunting and trapping license issued for 1941 expires August 31 1942, then runs September 1 to August 31 of the following year. Licenses for 1942 will be delivered in time for sale before September 1 1942.
Moody Bible Institute students Miss Audrey Tong Miss Mary Alice Donaldson and Calvin Dantico took part in a Sunday evening program at Calvary church Findlay Ash avenue. Tong is daughter of Willis Tong southwest of Carey Donaldson is daughter of T D Donaldson 320 Clinton Findlay and Dantico son of Angelo Dantico 1304 N Main Findlay.
Recreation Bowling Alleys opened to the public on E Findlay street in the Keller block. Glen Walborn owns and operates the facility with captains and managers invited to sign up teams for leagues starting the week of September 15.
The Jennie Larmonth Missionary Society will meet next Monday evening September 8 with Mrs Zack Montgomery. Mrs J E Ziebarth assists as hostess and Mrs George Newhard leads the lesson study.
