The village council met Monday evening August 18 and approved payment of numerous bills across departments. Expenses cover rent utilities salaries, water plant, disposal plant, pool attendants, street work, and retirement deductions totaling substantial payments.
Carey relatives report the safe arrival of Brother Lucian S D Urban Orians at Kosoridua on the Gold Coast Africa. He left St Marys Mission House Techay Illinois last December to serve as a missionary arrived January 24 but notification reached relatives only recently.
The Carey Townsend club will convene Monday at 8 o'clock in the public library to discuss important business. All members are urged to attend. Jacob Nitrauer, President.
Mrs Miles Mitten will host the J T club gathering Thursday August 21 with members attending.
Dr. Richard E. Scully, superintendent of Methodist churches in the Toledo district, will preach at the local Methodist church next Sunday at 10 o'clock. Mrs. Paul Heck will sing as Rev. Donald W Cryer fills the pulpit at St. Paul's Methodist. The church has hosted various preachers this year since Rev. Joél Waring serves as Protestant chaplain at Camp Shelby, Miss.
A life size model farm home for a family of five to six will be shown at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus August 23 29. Sponsored by Ohio Homes Foundation and Snyder Lumber. an all purpose model barn is offered for duplicate cost. Open daily 10 a m to 10 p m with expected attendance around 200 000.
Earl Robison of southwest of Carey was hospitalized at Findlay after an automobile wreck damaged his knee. An operation was performed at 10 30 a m Saturday. He may be moved to his parents home later today. Several relatives and friends visited him at the hospital.
R. D. Perkins of Carey in charge of pumping the Geyer oil well near Hedges street reported to police Thursday night that someone broke locks on a tool house and damaged another lock by a bullet. Indentations suggested a .32 caliber revolver or high powered .22 caliber rifle was used. Windows in the building were broken recently.
Christ Lutheran parish will hold a picnic at Carey Park this Sunday with a basket dinner at noon. Each family provides table service sandwiches and either a covered dish meat or salad. The Clouser family will attend and all church families and friends are urged to turn out.
The Carey Farmers Community club will meet Monday evening to organize the Wyandot County corn husking contest which the Carey club will sponsor. The entertainment committee will include J Mason Smith Carl Krout and Mahlon McBride, while Homer Clabaugh E C Ginther and Dan Weber serve on the feed committee.
The D C Henry home on W Findlay street sold to Herbert Lenner who plans a duplex remodel north of Carey. Clarence Kennerley, south of Carey, bought a 53 acre farm 2 miles south of Carey from Mr and Mrs WR Evans. Both deals handled by John Risner, a local real estate broker.
The Pythian Sisters will meet this Thursday evening at the Pythian hall. Members are urged to attend as a regular session and discussion of upcoming events will be held.
A barn on the Forest Hurd farm tenanted by Murray Pipes east of Carey burned Wednesday at 3 00 am. The two story frame building 40 by 60 feet and a 40 by 16 foot rear shed were destroyed, with contents including a 1937 Dodge coupe 20 tons of hay five farm machines and 35 chickens. The granary and chicken house were saved by firemen aided by steel roots.

The Carey public schools appoint Miss Alice Harrer of Bloomville as commercial teacher replacing Wilbur Lemasters who resigned for a Ravenna position. Harrer is a Heidelberg Tiffin Kent State graduate who studied at Colorado and taught four years in Huron county.
The Mary M artha class of Christ Lutheran Sunday school will host a rummage sale in the church basement on Friday and Saturday September 5 and 6 starting at 9 00 am There will be bargains and items for contribution may be arranged by calling Mrs Earl B Driver class president
Rev G N Perkins newly installed pastor of the Christian Church McMechen West Virginia will conduct a devotional broadcast each morning August 25 to 30 over station WHK Wheeling West Virginia 1400 from 10 to 1015 Eastern. Perkins is the son of Mrs Myrtle Perkins of NVance street and a former Carey resident.
Mrs Ross Johnson, a Republican, is named deputy registrar of motor vehicles in Carey to succeed the late W Campbell. Johnson was appointed after the death of her father in law James Campbell, who held the post.
Lady Frisco owned by Miss Ruth Riester won the 224 trot stake at the Seneca county fair, with the trophy posted by Hubach company of Tiffin. The event occurred on Wednesday.
Palm Leaf Rebekah Lodge will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday evening with members invited to attend and participate in scheduled agenda items.
The Hancock County Camp Meeting association closed its annual event at Byal park Findlay with Missionary Day events. Rev and Mrs George Belknap spoke about their voyage on the sunken Egyptian steamer Gamzam. Representatives from Oriental Missionary society Kentucky Mountain Holiness association and others addressed attendees. Meals were cafeteria style and a book store offered Biblical periodicals.
Theodore Lenhart of Sycamore Charles Horn of Marseilles and Robert Stuckey of Eden top the 4-H judging tour from sixty club members. L P McCann of Ohio State supervised final placings as teams prepared for state fair competition in Columbus on August 28 with stops at Riester Dow farm Mark Karr farm Herman Derr Burson Ward and C A Wentz offering livestock experiences.
The Clara Wentling family held its 25th annual reunion Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs Albert Picou six miles north of Carey with 53 members present. John Lawrence of Upper Sandusky attended as a visitor. Officers elected: President Supt George Stout Wharton vice president Kent Musgrave Wharton secretary Miss Wealtha Wentling Carey treasurer Paul Walter southwest of Carey. The 1942 reunion will be held the 3rd Sunday in August and the place will be determined by a committee of Clyde Wentling Ervin Wentling and Oscar Wentling. Mrs Cloyce Wentling and Mrs W E Cole will serve as a program committee.

A son eight pounds born Sunday to Mr and Mrs Russell Brown of Brown avenue. A son born Sunday to Mr and Mrs Eugene Theis of S Vance street.
The Kiwanis picnic planned for next Monday was postponed indefinitely. At the club meeting held Monday evening at Flalys BRev Paul Ro Clonser of Middletown Pa shared memories of the club's activities in honor of Charter Night, marking the local club's 20th anniversary.
Notice from Mayor Bachar prohibits riding bicycles on sidewalks in the business section on Wednesdays and Saturdays evenings. Bicycles should be parked in provided racks when use is necessary.

The Pierce family reunion also August 24 at Wyandot Indian roadside park Route 23 with Myrtle Perkins of Carey president and Mary Krebs of Upper Sandusky secretary treasurer. Bowlby Stall reunion is August 30 at W E Beck home seven miles west of Carey Route 15 and 2 miles north on Route 330 with W E Beck president and Mrs Beck secretary treasurer. The 37th Hile Putnam reunion is August 30 at Carey Park with B C Schubert of Continental president and Mrs Irvin Wonder treasurer and Mrs Delmer Lortz secretary.
A Carey Times card shared by C. D. Brown recalls General U S Grant born 1822 and died 1885. Funeral services were held August 8 1885 at Frederick's Grove at 10 oclock a m under Crawford Post No 173 G A R with Rev J M Dustman officiating.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Dible and Mr and Mrs Willis Smith traveled from Carey visiting Rev Evan Jones and Mrs Jones in Lucasville Ohio. They stayed with Rev and Mrs Marshall Cavit in Somerset Kentucky then toured Cumberland Falls Norris Dam Smoky Mountains Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive before returning home via Maryland Pennsylvania West Virginia and Ohio.
Mrs Jessie Putnam arrives home in Cleveland after a two week visit with friends and relatives, being hosted by Mrs Rachel Wright. She still owns two autograph albums begun in 1888 and 1892 containing many now silent signers and memories from school days.
One of Wyandot county's largest estates, that of the late Earl B Carter of Upper Sandusky, filed in court by administratrix Mrs Virginia Stoneburner. The inventory lists total value of 178819 90 with 78730 real estate and 78000 in stocks and securities.
Earl Hunter of Salem township presided over the county meeting of township trustees and clerks held Monday evening at the Wyandot county fairgrounds. Dale Robison and his sisters sang a solo with Elaine Thome accompanying.
The Carey Eagles announce a mixed dance at their hall Friday from 9 PM. Houck's Band of Findlay will furnish the music for the event.
The largest pilgrimage since 1938 gathered about 20 000 worshippers at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey on Sunday August 17. Attendees came from Youngstown New Castle Lowellville Niles Warren Pittsburgh Monessen Fairport Toledo Cleveland and Detroit with visiting priests from Detroit Gary Milwaukee Montreal Staten Island Terre Haute Monessen Trenton and other communities serving diverse language groups.

Mrs Robert Long of Fostoria visits Carey for three weeks to pack Henry family furniture on W Findlay Street for relocation to Fostoria. She will stay with Mrs D C Henry and Mrs J D Ewing until a new home is ready and later substitutes for Mrs Paul Powell in the board of affairs office. Mrs Long previously served as secretary to the board until resigning July 1.
Ada residents Prof Watson head of the violin department at Ohio Northern University and his wife called on Miss Eleanor McChesney at the McChesney home. McChesney will study under Watson who earned a scholarship from Ohio Northern.
Charles S Merion state superintendent of building and loan associations has approved a 42 500 liquidating dividend for People's Building Savings & Loan Co of Marion stockholders. The payout between August 15 and 20 equals 15 percent of claims and brings total returns to stockholders to 60 percent since liquidation began June 27 1940.
Bowling Green announces the marriage of Bette Sams of Bowling Green to William Cryer of North Baltimore. The ceremony occurred August 16, 1940. They will reside in Detroit where Cryer has taken an accounting position in a glass company.
Mary Alys Heilman ten year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Arden Heilman sustained a broken left arm Friday August 1 after falling from a horse at the home of her aunt Mrs Kent Heilman south of Carey.
Joseph Derr the 1 year old son of Mr and Mrs Hermin Derr of southwest of Carey will travel to Columbus next week to represent Washington county as its healthiest boy.
The Women of the Moose held their regular meeting Tuesday evening with a social hour and games. Inez Stombaugh served as publicity chairman.
