Don Donelson’s Semi-Pros lost to Tiffin American Restaurants last Sunday 17 to 10 after a lax defense and several misplays. G Orians led Carey with four hits including a homer. Carey totaled five homers with Rex, Orians, Keckler, Wickiser, and England contributing. House of David defeated the Semis in Tuesday night action during their first night game, with Wickiser and 17 Carey hits powering the visitors. about 1,000 paid for the event on the rubber plant diamond. Next Sunday the Semis face Columbus Travelers in a third meeting this year with Keckler and McMan among the pitchers.

Notice states banks in Wyandot county and neighboring counties will observe Thursday afternoon holiday. Cooperating institutions announce hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. starting Tuesday September 5 under the NRA program.

Owl credited as cause for birds' sudden disappearance

Hundreds of blackbirds and starlings roosting in park trees have vanished, sparing local residents. Observers say a large owl frightened them away, ending a period of noisy, unwelcome birds in the vicinity.

Mail transport contract awarded to Perry McDaniel

Perry McDaniel wins the mail hauler contract between the railroads and post office starting September 1 with a bid of 859 dollars annually. Cc. E. Hunter held the contract for 18 years. The change saves about 441 dollars yearly as government payments have fallen from 1300 dollars. Mail trains have decreased in frequency compared with earlier years.

Wheat Meeting Here At Catholic Hall Friday Evening

Local farmers will gather Friday at 8 15 at the Catholic hall to hear J. R. Gilkey of Mansfield explain the wheat section of the agricultural adjustment act. Applications to participate in the restricted acreage plan will be distributed for signature. All interested urged to attend.

Mrs Salome Orians Dies At 82 In Carey Home

Mrs Salome Orians died at her home in Carey on Monday at 2 16 am after a period of declining health. Born April 21 1852 she was 82 years and 4 months old. She married Joseph Orians who died 36 years ago and the couple had 10 children. Surviving are Susanna Ball Rose Brown Esther Orians Ambrose Orians and 25 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral Thursday at 9 30 am from Our Lady of Consolation church with Rev Fr Norbert Shumaker officiating. Burial in St Josephs cemetery Salem Township. Six grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Thirteen youths stage "School Days" in grove street basement

Thirteen youngsters from Frederick and Grove streets presented the play "School Days" in Mrs. Guy Emerson's Grove street basement. A good crowd attended and the proceeds fund an August 29 ice cream social on the Arch Donelson lawn at 348 Frederick street, open to the public.

Tragedy as 13 month old Ed Wedge dies in house fire

Ed ward Gene Wedge, 13 months, perished when a fire destroyed a two room structure on the Oscar Twining property in Findlay. Mrs. Wedge had left a kettle on a gas plate to fetch pickles at her sister's home. Firefighters arrived too late as the dry pine building burned quickly. Neighbors searched twice for the bed where the child slept but could not find it until the but was consumed. Burial followed at Spring Grove cemetery with family from nearby towns in attendance.

Guy F. Chilcote division chief and J. W. Connor inspector of the Toledo tax commission inspected cosmetics dealers licenses this week. About 100 dealers exist in the county but only 60 had licenses by Monday.

Pilgrimage draws thousands to Shrine of Consolation

About five to six thousand pilgrims visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation as the August pilgrimage closed. Six hundred rode in from Youngstown and 200 from Louisville Indianapolis and Jeffersonville. A bus brought 40 pilgrims from Amb ridge Pa. Most Rev Karl J Alter Bishop of Toledo attended with secretary Rev Leo Griffin. Alter presided at the benediction after the candle procession with deacon Rev James Higgin botham of Tiffin and sub deacon Rev Anthony Pax of Alvada.

Girl Scouts Plan Four Day Camping Trip

Mrs Paul McArthur will lead twenty Carey girl scouts on a four day camping trip to Forest. On Monday forenoon between 10 and 11 the scouts should have equipment ready as helpers collect and haul it to the meeting place. The group has borrowed three tents and a camp program is arranged.
