Pilgrims Fill Shrine for Aug Novena and Feast
Thousands of pilgrims visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation for the Aug 9 16 novena. The Feast of the Assumption drew the week's largest crowds with solemn processions, multilingual masses, and a miraculous statue carried by four Franciscan friars. The visiting clergy included many O M C and other orders with Fr Leonard Wren delivering novena sermons. The service concluded Sunday with an address and benediction by Bishop Karl Aiter of Toledo.

Pheasants Released For Wyandot County Then Open Season
Two hundred pheasants hatched at Wellington and reared at Urbana were released in Wyandot county early this week. Carey's quota was distributed by the Rod and Gun club to area farms. Additional birds were set aside for Lovell. Open pheasant season runs November 15 to 25.

Band Broadcast by National American Legion Parade Band
C C Simonis returned home from Cleveland where he belonged to the National American Legion Promenade band of Greenville. The 50 piece ensemble played at the Legion state convention and broadcast a program Monday evening from 7 00 to 7 30 over WGAR in Cleveland. The group is the original 40 et S band made famous during World War I.

Scouts Return From Camp With Advances In Rank
Scouts from Carey Troop 4 returned from a 10 day camping trip near Tiffin on Wednesday night. Five boys earned first class rank and four earned second class. Man Arrested for Nude Bathing at Local Bridge

Village Council OKs Gas Pipeline for Porcelain Plants
The village council approved Ordinance 224 granting Porcelain Products, Inc. the right to lay and maintain a natural gas pipeline for its plant. Mrs Samuel Machina arrived from Dearborn Michigan with her relatives for a Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation visit. She collapsed Sunday afternoon on S Vance street in front of Dan McLaughlins residence. She had undergone an ay operation five weeks earlier and had not recovered. Goffs ambulance rushed her to Dearborn hospital where a second operation was performed. Miriam Harshberger accompanied the ambulance and cared for Mrs Machina enroute.
