Friends Harvest Crop Near Carey During Hospital Stay
While Lee Yentzer of 30 miles northeast of Carey was a patient in Toledo General hospital in mid July, friends harvested the wheat and oats on his farm. Combining was done by Paul Reinhart and son James Fredritz Thelby Wentling and Wesley Phillips and son. Walter Bausman of Sycamore and Raymond Lonsway hauled grain to the elevator, with Mr and Mrs Charles Telling of Cleveland and Mr and Mrs Charles Telling and sons Bill and Jack of northeast of Carey, plus Paul Coldiron assisting.

First Polio Case Reported in Wyandot County
Wyandot county health office announced the first polio case of the year in Upper Sandusky. Thomas Reinbrech, 24, was taken to Columbus Children’s Hospital after illness began earlier in the week, with his condition described as a light attack.

The Carey board of education buys three 48 passenger and four 54 passenger buses for the 1948-419 school year. One 54 passenger bus is assigned to Our Lady of Consolation school. Harl Hetzel will supervise the fleet. A ten year lease covers the Edward Riester bus garage, to be expanded and ready opening day. Buses follow Ohio Bus Travel Regulations and cannot travel out of state or carry non student groups. Private transport required for trips. buses need a travel certificate for away games.

The district approves purchase of new school buses amid a large pilgrimage event at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey. An estimated 38 000 pilgrims visited on August 15 with arrivals by four special trains and 119 chartered buses and private cars. Mr and Mrs S W McChesney and daughters Eleanor and Mignon of Carey with Miss Catherine Weaver of Akron returned to Carey after visiting their son Samuel III at Culver Military Academy Indiana. They joined rehearsals and concerts of the naval military band and attended a Founders Day parade photo session and a formal dance at the inns recreation hall. Samuel, Kirwin Stief and Lafayette Wall were among local guests at meals and the Fowler cruise. Samuel has been promoted to petty officer first class and both he and Kirwin play in the band.
