Contracts for 18 highway jobs totaling 907827 and 50 miles of street work were awarded by Ohio Highway Director Ear Reed and the awards board. The Carey project on Findlay Street went to Ohio Engineering Co. for 55805 with completion by November 30, 1948. Dale Leichty Stricken With Polio In Ohio
Dale Leichty 29 of Richland township near Mt. Blanchard is in an iron lung at Columbus Children's Hospital with polio. He first showed symptoms Monday evening, thought to be spinal meningitis, then diagnosed as polio and moved from Kenton to Columbus hospital. He is married to the Hendrickses’ daughter of Vanville. His wife reportedly suffered a sore throat two weeks earlier, with a possible mild polio attack.

Two Softball Games at Park Promoted by Committee

Escapee Steals New Automobile
Claude Ive Hill, 17, escapee from the Boys' Industrial School at Lancaster, was returned to Wyandot county jail on a charge of auto larceny. He allegedly stole a 1948 Frazer from behind the Carey theatre in Carey, drove toward Fostoria, then toward Oak Harbor before being captured in Ottawa county. The theft caused property losses for Mr and Mrs. Tompkins totaling several hundred dollars. ring gear and a broken driver’s window were noted. The car was found in good condition aside from the damage.

Mrs Elizabeth Pursell Moved to Indianapolis in Ambulance
Mrs Elizabeth Pursell aged 79 was taken from Findlay hospital to her daughter Mrs H R Baldwin’s home in Indianapolis last Thursday. The trip in Bristoll’s ambulance was with Mr and Mrs R Allen, who returned to Carey on Saturday. She broke her right hip over four weeks ago and now wears a cast for nine weeks.
