James H Starr Dies Suddenly at La Jolla Cal

James H Starr died of a heart ailment at La Jolla California on Monday August 6 1928 aged 70. He had recently undergone an operation in San Diego and had been summering in La Jolla at the Colonial hotel. Starr was a prominent Centralia Missouri businessman longtime Bank of Centralia director and Chicago and Alton Railroad director. He is survived by his son Chester G Starr Bloomington Illinois and his wife Harriet Lucinda Gibbs Starr who died in 1919. Funeral held at his Findlay Street residence with burial in Spring Grove cemetery.

Attempted Hold Up Near Findlay Street Report

Saturday evening about 11:00 Mrs. F H Frederick and her son Judson faced an attempted purse snatching as a man grabbed the purse and tossed them to the ground near Findlay street. The suspect fled west and then north after Mrs Frederick pursued. A similar prowling incident occurred Monday near the Findlay residence.

Edmonson Promoted Move to Chillicothe as District Superintendent

Mr and Mrs J T Edmonson left Monday for Chillicothe where they will establish their future home. Their son, the longtime local agent of Logan Gas Co, has been promoted to district superintendent with headquarters in Chillicothe. They will move their household goods once a house is found, and Carew friends regret their departure.

Carey Board Signs Power Contract With Wyandot Co

The Carey board of affairs signs a contract to supply Wyandot Light and Power Co with electric energy east to Lemert. Wires and poles extend to Tymochtee and the company will take 40 kV of current to start with Carey expected to bear no equipment costs for the new customer.

Death of Mrs S E Shellhaas Prompted Troy Trip

Rev and Mrs Joseph B Shellhaas and their son Glenn went to Troy last Thursday after the death of Mr Shellhaas mother Mrs S E Shellhaas at Piqua hospital following gall stone surgery. The couple returned home Monday while their son stayed longer.

Large Pilgrimage At Shrine Draws Thousands

More than 10 000 pilgrims visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation on Wednesday. The crowd was among the largest ever seen at the site, with warm weather and a clear sky favored by attendees.

Miss Eloise Thrall joined Buckeye Press Association members at Indian Lake for a summer outing. Attendees enjoyed free amusement rides, air plane and speed boat rides, dancing, and a visit to Ohio Gaverns with a complimentary banquet at Orchard Island Hotel. Roscoe Airs, Broadway dancing comedian, hosted a night club session with Mr Ails making a notable summer appearance on Crystal Beach Island.

Mrs Lillie England born Lillie Dell Hartle December 80 1879 died August 6 at 1 15 am at her parents home 844 miles west of Carey funeral held August 8 at 10 am at the Hartle residence. She leaves parents children Melvin England Dwight Myers Wallace and Martha Findlay, one grandchild, two sisters and many relatives. The service was officiated by Rev A A Thomas with hymns read and no music. She belonged to Salem U B Church and the W C T U.

Carey Hosts Akron Businessmen Rail Tour Dinner Welcome

About 200 Akron businessmen plus rail executives visited Carey on the A C Y line traveling from Akron to Carey on an industrial tour. Local women hosted dinner at the Catholic hall. Mayor Byers spoke, H B Stewart of A C Y responded. The Akron Beacon Journal recounted rail improvements, new engines, bridges, rails, and 15 new sidings boosting freight and connections to major lines.
