Wyandot County School Valuations and Enrollment Report

The annual Wyandot county report shows school buildings valued at 931 800 with equipment at 95 200 under County Superintendent J H Grove. One new Marseilles building cost 63 000. buses carry 1231 to elementary, 282 to high schools, and 130 to consolidated elementary daily. Centralized schools total nine with Eden Salem Wharton Nevada Antrim Sycamore Harpster McCutchenville and Marseilles. Enrollment totals include 1965 boys and 1428 girls in first eight grades, 295 boys in the third grade high school program, central daily attendance 2604 in eight grades and 610 in high schools. Forty-five libraries hold 3130 usable books. tuition paid by 20 elementary and 70 high school pupils. Forty-seven graduates from first eight grades. 288 pupils fail in eight grades and 30 in high schools.

Paralyzed man from Crawford area suffers stroke

Paralitic stroke struck Haterd, once of Crawford and later Lakewood, while visiting his daughter Mrs Raymond Lucedon in Toledo. He planned a trip to Carey on Sunday to see his son and family. He was 12 years old in November, records show.

Boy 13 Hurt Eye In Door Hinge Incident

Clarence, a 13 year old from Columbus, was hurt when a metal splinter embedded in his eye while repairing a door hinge. Dr Brown removed the metal with a magnet. He had been hospitalized since Monday and is now returned home.

Akron Business Men Visit Carey For Roadbed Demonstration

About 250 Akron business men will be brought to Carey Friday by the A C and Y trolley line to view the new roadbed. The Kiwanis club will meet them at the train and escort the visitors by auto to the Catholic parish hall where dinner will be served by parish ladies.

Infant Daughter Dies at Birth near Van Town

An infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Walter was born Friday afternoon at their home southwest of town and died at birth. The burial took place Saturday at 1 pm in St Paul Cemetery south of Van-Tne.

Delightful Outing for Harding District News Association

Miss Eloise Thrall Miss Audrey Spitler and Russell and Howard Brown visited Crystal Lake park Marion on Saturday for a meeting and outing hosted by the Marion Star and Manager Scherff. They toured the Star plant visited the Harding Memorial and enjoyed a picnic dinner and park amusements. Manager Scherff extended a cordial invitation to Carey residents to visit Crystal Lake.

Miami Family Returns for Visit to Oggs and Kin

Mr and Mrs A R Kokenge and children Urban Ardene and Marilyn of Miami Fla arrived Saturday night for a several month visit with Mrs Kokenge's parents Mr and Mrs Lee Ogg and others in Indiana and here. The party reported excellent road conditions and a three day trip, traveling 616 miles from Asheville NC leaving at 6 AM and arriving Carey at 11 30 PM. Mr Kokenge formerly did business here and friends welcomed the family back.

Ora Essex Supervises Auglaize River Gauge Installation

Ora Essex of Continental spent Sunday with his parents Mro and Mrs Joseph Essex. He works for the US Geological Survey and has been supervising a gauge installation in the Auglaize river near Diaport. His chief reported the gauge is a credit to the government and to Essex and his crew, aiding measurement of current strength for river cleaning efforts.

Multiple Auto Wrecks Leave Town Scene of Chaos

Last Thursday night a head on collision on Findlay street involved Tommy Reinhart and Allen Stoll driving on the wrong side. Reinhart's car owned by Charles Reynolds suffered heavy damage but no injuries reported. A separate crash six miles north on the Styria road left L. E. Baisden unconscious and later moved to Portsmouth hospital. Two companions unhurt. Other incidents include a road collision on Vance street involving Norman Gamel and Peter Schultz Jr. A Lumberjack near A. and P. store tried to turn causing truck damage. George Ash’s Willys Knight overturned on Carey-Fostoria road with minor injuries to four passengers. Alba Rothgeb and Ranger helped. no serious harm. Eugene Garn of Toledo, with family, collided head-on after misreading a signal. Mrs Hilty injured slightly. A northbound Reo driven by Garn damaged, Mrs Hilty treated for facial injuries. Mrs Allen Powell, north of town on Fostoria road, waved to friends and was thrown from a vehicle with minor injuries.

Remarkable 92 Year Old Aunt Keeps Home Quilting

Harry Bechtel visited relatives and found his aunt Mrs Elizabeth Reed of Tower Vth Ils nearing 92. The surviving sister of his late father Daniel Bechtel, she quilts and finished eight quilts last winter. She recovered from a hip fracture two years ago and remains mobile at home.
