Farm Bureau Meeting Planned in Crawford Ridge

Crawford Ridge Farm Bureau members will meet Wednesday night August 20 at Moose hall. An exhibit for the county fair will be planned and a wheat fertilizer discussion plus orders will be taken. Committee members will handle refreshments and an entertaining program.

Saving Fish at Carey Rod and Gun Club Efforts

The Carey Rod and Gun Club along with district conservation officers rescued fish from shallow creek pools last Thursday and Sunday and relocated them to deeper water. Drought has dried many streams, causing thousands of fish losses.

Margaret Esther Dunaway dies after illness at home

Margaret Esther Dunaway aged 9 of Three Rivers dies Friday afternoon after months of illness at her home 406 Constantine Shelvat. Born August 13 1914 she lived in Three Rivers all her life attended local schools and served in church activities including cradle roll. Survived by parents sister Katherine grandmother Lizzie Snyder and many relatives. Funeral at Haring chapel Monday at 2 with Rev. Slee and Rev. Watts. interment Riverside. Remains lie in state at home Sunday 2 to 6.

Miss Ruth Diller Returns From European Tour

Miss Ruth Diller accompanied college students on a European tour and will land in Montreal on the Aquitania Friday before arriving in Carey Sunday night or Monday. She saw the Passion Play at Oberammergau on July 16 and visited multiple countries. On the return voyage, the south coast of Labrador was shrouded in dense fog, forcing the ship to drop anchor for a day and night, then encountering icebergs.

J. H. Keckler rents the John Simonis room at 109 W. South Street to operate horseshoeing and general blacksmithing. The space was vacated by A. L. Arnold who used it as a poultry warehouse and now occupies the nearby small building opposite his cream station.

Frank Shellhouse of Indianapolis visited his aunt in Carey last Thursday night. He compared Carey today with 50 years past noting mud streets and few utilities, but praised absence of saloons and overall prospering. Shellhouse recalled his 30 year ago lecture trip to the Holy Land and Egypt. he still has stereopticon views and serves as president of the Shellhouse Fireproof Warehouse Co. Carey defeated West Independence 3-0 on their field last Sunday. Key hits came in the pinches with strong pitching by Walborn as the visitors threatened. Cable damaged by mineshaft? No, by digging at fire hydrant

Telephone cables were severed when a pick damaged the line in front of Mrs. Sadie Kennerley’s residence on W Findlay street. 330 of 660 wires were cut, disrupting service in the town’s west end until the next afternoon. Carey residents report the First National Bank was robbed Friday at 12 30 PM by two swarthy men in a green Chevrolet coach. They escaped with about $550, followed by a car chase toward Vanlue and a near-bridge incident as workers halted repairs. A license tag linked to a Wayne Williams man in Risingsun caused a false lead.
