David A. Van Horn of Harpster was fined 300 in Toledo District Federal Court Toledo on a charge of killing a bald eagle with a high velocity rifle near Kildeer Plains earlier this year. A 30 day jail term was suspended. The eagle is America’s national emblem.

The note asked for location information and landings and was signed James A Martin Lombard NJ. Barth later heard that the balloon and five others were released on July 24 and may have traveled about 250 miles.

Huge Elm Tree Falls to Dutch Elm Disease in Carey's Front Yard
A 200 year old elm at 517 W Findlay Street owned by Mrs Mary Eklberry was destroyed Friday by Buckeye Tree Surgeons of Findlay after failed attempts to save it. The tree’s disease made the wood pulpy and unusable. Neighbors watched as workers toppled and ground the stump, halting traffic temporarily.
