Garey Merchant Marks 25th Anniversary

Harry E. Myers celebrates 25 years as owner and manager of Harry's Pharmacy in Carey. A 1925 Ohio Northern University pharmacy graduate, he built the business from Brayton's Drug Store in 1936 and remodeled in 1958 and 1960 with son David. He served on village council, Scouting committees, school and park boards, contributing to the community.

Carey 4-H Girls To Repeat Demonstration At Ohio State Fair

Wyandot county 4 H 4 H girls from Carey were selected to represent Wyandot at the 1961 Ohio State Fair after placing in the county contest on July 25. Cynthia Smith and Laura Doppler won first and second in the Junior Division singles with "Bake with a Master Mix You Make" and a Raggedy Ann based salad. Theresa and Regina Weaver won first in Junior Division doubles for "Shimmering Desserts."

Vanlue Homecoming Parade Opens 1961 Festivities

Vanlue's 8th annual homecoming begins this evening with home cooked meals from 5 PM. A grand parade at 6:30 will feature 38 units led by the Vanlue High School Band under Mrs. James Currence. Baylor Honors James Needs With Full Tuition Scholarship

James Needs son of Mr and Mrs David Needs route 4 Upper Sandusky has won a full tuition scholarship from Baylor University in Waco Texas based on his 1961 American College Test score and ranking in the top five percent of his Upper Sandusky High School class where he served as president He enrolled in Baylor College of Business Administration and will renew the award annually for scholastic achievement The Owens-Illinois Company funds the program at 12 universities in the United States and the 6th year of operation included a two day orientation for James and his family with housing in university dormitories Fall term begins September 12

The August draft increase affects 462 more Ohio men under President Kennedy's plan to boost manpower for the Berlin crisis. The original call totaled 749, including one man from Wyandot county, whose inclusion has no effect on the county's overall status.

Toledo Columbus 4 Lane Access Plans Announced

The State Highway Department outlined tentative Toledo to Columbus four lane highway plans promising contract by end of 1962. Route bypasses Upper Sandusky and Marion areas and links U S 68 and U S 25 with possible I 75 alignment. West Wyandot and Hancock counties would need about 15 miles of new right of way. Governor DiSalle pushes completion to connect Toledo with Columbus.

Carey Little Leaguers Fall 7 6 to Sycamore in Close Game

Carey lost a tight 7 6 Little League contest to Sycamore at the Sycamore diamond last Thursday. Tom Dible had two hits, Tom Tucker a triple, Roger Hall and Tom Myers doubles, with Carey scoring all runs in the third aided by four hits and three errors. Terry Heck struck out 8 across four innings, Tommy Tucker finished the fifth. In local league play the Yankees lead at 4 2, Hawks 3 3 tied for second with Indians 2 2, Wildcats 2 4. August schedule follows with Indians Hawks and Yankees Indians games.

James Hall Escapes Serious Injury In Fall

James Hall aged 27 fell four feet from a tunnel wall onto an eight inch steel rod while working for J F Dible Co in Bowling Green Ohio. The rod entered his left side near the rib cage but no lung damage was found. He was treated at Wood County Hospital and released by the following weekend. Hall is son of Charles Hall of west of Carey and son in law of Mr Dible.

Carter man injured in truck auto crash

Owen J. Roberts, 69, Crawford, is under a physician's care for a left shoulder injury from a 3:55 p.m. collision in Upper Sandusky. He drove a 1951 Ford truck on Walpole Street turning onto Finley Street when hit by 19-year-old James A. Witzel in a southbound 1958 Oldsmobile. Police report extensive damage to the left side of the truck and right side of the Oldsmobile.

Parking violation leads to fines in Findlay court

Darrel Walter, 19, Route 2, fined 34.25 for parking on the highway after Hancock County sheriff's deputies filed charges following a July 21 rear-end crash east of Mt. Blanchard involving John L. Burrell, 18, who was fined 25 and costs for driving without headlights at an earlier hearing.

Theft Reported at Big Shell Service Station

The Seneca county sheriff's department investigates the loss of 2100 from the Big Shell station at Routes 23 and 224 north of Alvada. Operator Richard McClellan said about 400 in cash and 300 to 400 in signed credit charges plus checks vanished from a locked safe left unforced after he placed it there earlier that day.

Former Tiffin Pastor Will Preach Sunday At Lutheran Church

The Rev. Dr. William A. Janson of Philadelphia will be guest preacher at Christ Lutheran Church on August 6 and 13. Formerly pastor of First English Lutheran in Tiffin, he led a half million dollar church plant and has served in Springfield Ohio New York City Lovettsville Va. Carey police investigated two break-ins from early Wednesday. Arthur Dyer's car on N Vance Street was entered with cigarettes stolen through a vent window. At Keckler's Tavern officers found two intruders inside after they broke a rear window and door. they were jailed and unnamed.
