Sixty Eight Men to Take Draft Physiicals

Wyandot county draft board in Upper Sandusky reports 68 men will be called for physicals for classification in August and September. The first group of 16 travels to Toledo on August 25, another group of 13 on August 22. An expected total of 39 to be called in September, with possible increase.

Mr and Mrs F D Jackson plan a grand opening Saturday August 12 for their rebuilt Carey store offering children's wear family dry goods and tailored suits and topcoats. New stock includes Bobby Brooks Fashion Craft and Mary Donnan dresses with some orders delayed. Mr Jackson formerly led J C Penney Tiffin store for 26 years and served as Lions Club president while Mrs Jackson taught in Tiffin junior high. They reside with two daughters Martha Jane and Betty Lou in a Carter street apartment.

Carey woman reports shrinking sofa pillows after cleaning

A Carey resident recounts sending sofa pillows from her living room for cleaning and receiving them back smaller than the covers that were removed. Some pillows measured four inches shorter in both dimensions, and no explanation for the shrinkage has been found.

Careful Petition Delays Carey W Findlay Street Assessment

Ernest Dunn and 18 other property owners on W Findlay Street filed a petition in common pleas court Upper Sandusky to stop the village of Carey from certifying an assessment for street improvement. They allege lack of proper notice and planning, improper widening and curb changes, and unlawful anticipated costs. The village must answer by August 28.

Mr and Mrs Henry Odone and Joe DeAmicis fly to Italy departing Willow Run Detroit on Friday afternoon by a TWA plane. The Odone couple will stay two months with relatives in Rome and Ceraino Abruzi while DeAmicis who has lived in the United States 40 years will remain in Italy. The trip included long air travel with two refueling stops and reaches Rome Saturday night. The Odones plan Holy Year participation and visits with kin in Ceraino and Abruzi.

Roof Fire Causes Little Damage at Carey Farm Home

Carey firemen were summoned to the Greeley Marshall farm northwest of Carey on Base Line road around 11 a.m. Tuesday. The blaze, believed started by a spark from the kitchen stove, burned the wood shingles but caused only minor damage to the Wilson Wagers residence. Firemen also fought a grass fire near the Smith and Lusk plant last Thursday afternoon.

Priscilla Guild Hosts August picnic meeting

Susann Kin, a one year old child of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kin of west of New Riegel, has returned home from Maumee Valley Hospital Toledo after months of polio treatment that left her left leg paralyzed. She now uses a brace and crutches and has completed seventh grade studies.
