Safety week proceeded as planned except for the Saturday parade. The rodeo on Wednesday highlighted gaps in child bicycle readiness, with 63 incidents and 4/79 turnout considered poor. Organizers note partial public engagement but credit participants for gaining safety lessons for future efforts.

Eloise Stansberry 11, daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Stansberry of near Carey, was diagnosed with non-paralyzing polio and treated with hot packs. After illness and transfers from Findlay to Maumee Valley hospital in Toledo, doctors expect she may be discharged within 10 days if improvement continues.
A Marion field office representative will be at the Carey municipal building on Tuesday August 22 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm to issue or replace social security numbers and cards for those entering covered employment.
Wyandot county draft board in Upper Sandusky reports 68 men will be called for physicals for classification in August and September. The first group of 16 travels to Toledo on August 25, another group of 13 on August 22. An expected total of 39 to be called in September, with possible increase.
Photographers from Migs Wealthy Wentling captured images at the Guernsey show held with Crawford County fair in Bucyrus last week. The event drew 108 animals and marked Wyandot county dairy men winning a strong share of prizes in the Wyandot Blanchard Valley district annual show.

Mr and Mrs F D Jackson plan a grand opening Saturday August 12 for their rebuilt Carey store offering children's wear family dry goods and tailored suits and topcoats. New stock includes Bobby Brooks Fashion Craft and Mary Donnan dresses with some orders delayed. Mr Jackson formerly led J C Penney Tiffin store for 26 years and served as Lions Club president while Mrs Jackson taught in Tiffin junior high. They reside with two daughters Martha Jane and Betty Lou in a Carter street apartment.
The Moose outfit defeated the Frigidaires 9 to 6 Monday night to secure the league lead. They improved to 17 wins and 3 losses, with Bill and Jack Green's Refrigeration close behind at 14-5. Two games remain but winning the league is no longer within reach.

A Carey resident recounts sending sofa pillows from her living room for cleaning and receiving them back smaller than the covers that were removed. Some pillows measured four inches shorter in both dimensions, and no explanation for the shrinkage has been found.
Kermit Peterson resigns as secretary of Carey Motor Service Inc Buick dealers and sells his interest in the business to M. D. Shafer and Edgar Keller, the other firm members. He has no definite plans for the future.
Ernest Dunn and 18 other property owners on W Findlay Street filed a petition in common pleas court Upper Sandusky to stop the village of Carey from certifying an assessment for street improvement. They allege lack of proper notice and planning, improper widening and curb changes, and unlawful anticipated costs. The village must answer by August 28.
Mr and Mrs Henry Odone and Joe DeAmicis fly to Italy departing Willow Run Detroit on Friday afternoon by a TWA plane. The Odone couple will stay two months with relatives in Rome and Ceraino Abruzi while DeAmicis who has lived in the United States 40 years will remain in Italy. The trip included long air travel with two refueling stops and reaches Rome Saturday night. The Odones plan Holy Year participation and visits with kin in Ceraino and Abruzi.
Carey firemen were summoned to the Greeley Marshall farm northwest of Carey on Base Line road around 11 a.m. Tuesday. The blaze, believed started by a spark from the kitchen stove, burned the wood shingles but caused only minor damage to the Wilson Wagers residence. Firemen also fought a grass fire near the Smith and Lusk plant last Thursday afternoon.
The Girl Scouts of Carey plan an all-day camp at Memorial Park on Thursday August 17. Activities begin at 8 a.m. with flag raising and an early morning pool dip. Members should contact their troop leaders or Mrs. Elbert Tewell for details.

Mrs Vera Cook and Miss Margaret Lawhead of Adrian left on a 10 day northern tour. They are joined by Miss Claraler of Toledo and Miss Hulda Gerfen of Monrovia Calif. The itinerary includes the Strait of Mackinac Northern Michigan the Dells of Wisconsin and a return via Chicago for several days.

Dr. Loren L. Pace an optometrist from Findlay announces new Carey offices at 10936 Findlay Street above Bowman's Electric. Hours are Wednesday 6 to 9 p m Thursday 9 to 5 and Saturday 4 to 7 30 p m. A 1949 Ohio State graduate he practiced seven months in Findlay and runs an office in the Ohio Bank building in Windlay. He is married with two children.
The Rev and Mrs W B Smith and son Charles with Miss Wealtha Wentling and Miss Arlene Rickle will leave today for Camp Sychar Mt Vernon. They will attend the interdenominational camp meeting in session August 10 to 20. Miss Rickle serves as a children's worker and Rev Smith will return to Carey for worship at Memorial E U B Church next Sunday morning.
The Priscilla Guild of Christ Lutherans Church will meet Thursday August 10 at 6 30 p m at Carey Memorial Park. Attendees bring a covered dish and their own table service. Hostesses are Miss Mary Alice Markley and Mrs Gordon Wyatt with Mrs Dale Thomas leading devotions and Mrs Arden Coppler guiding the lesson.
The Findlay recruiting station reports Ray J Coldiron of Carey route 1 enlisted in the army in July. He will begin basic training at Ft. Knox Kentucky and is the son of Mrs. Edna Coldiron living south of Carey.

Merchants surrendered a 3 run lead as Saarhave of Tiffin rallied Sunday night to win 7-6. Both sides scored one run in the second inning. Grimm led off for Tiffin with a single and scored on Elson error. Yingling walked for the Merchants and later scored on wild pitches and sacrifices.

Susann Kin, a one year old child of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kin of west of New Riegel, has returned home from Maumee Valley Hospital Toledo after months of polio treatment that left her left leg paralyzed. She now uses a brace and crutches and has completed seventh grade studies.
