Death of Lizzie Opper at 64 in Ridge Township

Lizzie Opper daughter of George and Dorothy Opper was born in Upper Sandusky Ohio on November 8 1857 and died August 3 1924 at her Ridge Township home aged 64 years 8 months 25 days She joined the Church of God at Grace Chapel about 35 years ago and leaves three brothers and three sisters The family lists Nicholas Gorge and John Opper near Carey Mrs Katie Pratt Vanlue Mrs Mary Pratt Findlay and Mrs Charlie Hill Adrian The note adds a brief obituary line about three siblings and parents with a family note about two sisters Sarah and Emamias. CAPTAIN AMORE TO PREACH. Captain R W Amore and family of Dover are guests at the Evangelical parsonage next Sunday with the Captain preaching at St Paul Carey and other services with expected instruments and special music.

On Sunday the Salem Monarchs defeated Fleck's Square Deals 7 to 4 in a long contest that settled a standing tie. Bradley pitched effectively with 10 strikeouts while Henige fanned 2. Greer and Reynolds doubled, England to Reynolds to Greer completed a key double play. Next Sunday the Monarchs meet Salem on the Salem diamond.

Eugene Bradley Weds Helen Knight in Springfield Ceremony

Miss Helen Knight of Springfield and Walter Eugene Bradley of Carey Ohio united in marriage at Wittenberg Seminary chapel on Tuesday at 10 30 in the morning. Rev Dr L H Larimer read the Lutheran ring service. The couple will spend the summer in Lawrenceburg Indiana where Bradley has a Lutheran church charge before returning to Springfield for the fall.

Kiwanis Luncheon Reports Transportation Outlook

The Kiwanis Club met with 19 members present and welcomed Jas J. Keyhoe of Cleveland connected with the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul R R. He spoke on transportation and the bright outlook for northwestern roads. With many visitors expected next week the club will skip next Monday’s luncheon and turn the Galt dining room over to guests. A class prize of a comb presented by H. B Keller and drawn by E C Harshberger was well received.

Dr. Spaid to Preach at Local Lutheran Service

Dr. E. Luther Spaid of Chicago will preach Sunday evening at 7 30 at the Lutheran church. He previously served as pastor of the local church for fourteen years before leaving last fall for a new home in Chicago.

Voter Turnout Favorable in Tuesday Primaries

About fifty percent of voters participated in the primaries on Tuesday. Women voters matched the men in turnout and duty.

Pilgrimage at Shrine Sets Extended Novena Schedule

Large attendance reported as pilgrims prepare for intensified novena prayers at the Shrine. Services include Holy Masses, Rosary, Benediction, and Blessing with the Relic of the Holy Cross through August 15, with daily confessions in multiple languages and accommodations arranged by the Pilgrim House and Carey parish ladies.

A Boy Scout Troop is organized with Howard Miller as scout master and Ralph Kurek as assistant, backed by the Kiwanis Club. An organization meeting will be held at the library Friday at 7:30 PM. dues are 50 cents yearly, with many advantages promised to Carey boys.

Receiver Sought in Liberty Airless Tire Case

In Upper Sandusky a petition by James F Shuman George Ash and Wesley Patterson asked for a receiver for The Liberty Airless Tire Corporation. Judge Charles F Close granted a temporary injunction and Sheriff Swartz was named temporary receiver as a hearing proceeds. Plaintiffs, directors and stockholders, accuse Irvin Jordan and Milo E Jordan of dominating the company and selling tires to their subsidiary The Jordan Tire and Rubber Company at below cost while taking $2000 commissions.

Operation at Tuffin Removes Grain From Child Lungs

Louis Werling of Tiffin accompanied Mr and Mrs Joseph Jacoby and their three year old son Harvey to Toledo where surgeons at Toledo Hospital removed a grain of corn from the boy s lungs. The incident began when a startled playmate caused him to swallow a grain from an ear of corn. Harvey s health declined until the operation and he is now recovering elatedly under Porter s care in Tiffin with Toledo specialists guiding the aftercare.

Farmers Picnic at Upper Sandusky Fair Grounds

A big Farm Bureau and Grange picnic is set for Thursday August 17 at the Fair Grounds Upper Sandusky. The program includes a progress parade at 10 00 am and contests starting 1 30 pm with a pot luck picnic lunch at noon. For details call Mrs Mark Karr township chairman.

Remarked Quarry Worker Fined After Train Incident

Sunday afternoon a Stone Quarry employee named Sam WKlaee was arrested after alighting from the Bee Four passenger train and found to be intoxicated. He paid a $100 fine plus costs to Mayor Muliholand.

Carey council approves numerous bills and fines at meeting

City officials including Mayor Mulhaland and Clerk Steady approved varied bills for pipe fittings, labor on water and street extensions, gas and electric services, and miscellaneous town costs. Fines were issued for driving with lights and immoral conduct, and the health officer was empowered to cut weeds townwide.
