Perry McDaniel of Carey Ohio landed a 30 inch 1044 pound catfish at Elk Lake using night crawlers on a No 6 hook. He and helpers John and Billy Loughley were aboard the Pines cottages guests. The Record Eagle notes fishing has been good recently.
Mrs. Margaret Livonia Brayton Ebersole of the Kollmeier Rest Home in Findlay turned 100 on Monday August 5. Born on the Brayton farm north of Carey, she is the last survivor of nine children and mother of 14, now with 7 living. An active centenarian with a sense of humor she rises at 6 AM and counsels to keep living and avoid over eating. Her extended family and Hancock County Camp Fire Girls joined in celebrations, including an open house near Arcadia and a birthday luncheon for her roommate.
The Christ Lutheran Church council voted to hire Norman T. Mansell of Philadelphia as architect for the proposed new church building. Mansell, former dean of the American Guild of Church Architects, has designed churches in 40 states and worked on the $144 million chapel and library at Wittenberg College in Springfield.
At a Monday meeting in the high school band room the Carey Band Mothers set a fundraising march to solicit contributions for new uniforms. President Mrs. Melvin Ho telling led the session. plan covers residential district routes from 7 to Tuesday evening August 28. Superintendent Douglas J and Band Director Walter B attended and commented.
John Jacoby of S Lake Street resigns after nearly 40 years of service in the local post office. He leaves on paid vacation with retirement effective Oct 1, having started as a rural route carrier in 1913 and later serving as assistant postmaster since 1942.
Mr and Mrs Robert Zeiger moved early last week from Toledo to a newly bought home in Grand Rapids Michigan where Zeiger has been transferred with General Electric. Mrs Zeiger and son Bobby visit relatives in Carey and with Mr and Mrs Elmer Messmer.
Vanlue School will open August 27. All students entering the district since the closing of school must register this week. First grade children who did not register in spring urged to register this week. Call or visit H E Hinkle at home.
Mr and Mrs Forest Bland of 324 Ash Street have bought Mrs Catherine Bakers lot on Ash Street and the adjacent corner house at Ash and Brown Avenue now occupied by Mrs Baker. They plan extensive remodeling. Mrs Baker will live in a purchased trailer on the lot.
Two boys David Puchta and Joe Mundy discovered miniature ears of corn measuring about 1 3/4 inches long behind the Dible block on E. South Street. They are sons of Mr and Mrs Donald Puchta and Mr and Mrs George Mundy.
The Men's Bowling Leagues call a meeting of all captains and bowlers at 8 p.m. Thursday August 16 at the Recreation Alleys to discuss league matters.
Fostoria Savings and Loan defeats Carey All Stars 7 to 4 at the park diamond. Gray pitched three innings for Fostoria with 9 strikeouts. Dell finished, Phillips started for Carey, and Traxler closed for Fostoria. Box scores list multiple Little League games and upcoming matchups.
The Sohio Baron women's softball team beat Galion 12 to 6 at Carey Memorial Park on Monday night. Upcoming games include August 10 at Bellefontaine and August 13 against Port Clinton, with start times set between 7:30 and 8 pm. Team sponsors include Gibson's Sohio and other Carey-area businesses with coach Thelby Wentling. Montague’s Barber Shop will be closed August 13 to August 16 for a short closure with the shop opening again on Friday. The notice indicates a temporary pause in operations and returns to regular service afterward.
Huston Lumber Co finishes concrete work for four new storage silos of the Vanlue Grain and Supply Association in Vanlue Ohio. The 113 foot height silos with 100000 bushel capacity, built by Pelou Construction Co of Whitehall Michigan, rose from a 1200 cubic yard pour completed with continuous eight crew operation. President Stanley Johnston and secretary O E Hall head the association with Mrs Warren Daniels guiding the elevator awaiting soybean harvest.
Reverend Paul Pusey pastor of Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene and his wife and children Larry Steven and Timothy moved last Thursday from the apartment above the church to the house on the nearby Saltzman farm. Mr Saltzman and Mrs Saltzman have moved into the remodeled house across from the chapel.
Chief Henry Pieracini reports that three Carey juveniles had their driver's licenses revoked within the past 10 days after appearing before Judge Russell H Kear. The youths were charged with speeding and reckless operation. it was the first offense for each boy. Licenses suspended for 15 days each.

Mr and Mrs Lewis Hawk and their son Danny will relocate to Tiffin next Tuesday. Mr Hawk will serve as band director at Tiffin Columbian High School and they will reside at 45 West Perry Street.
Tom Atkins, stationed with the U S Navy at Great Lakes Illinois, has earned one first prize and two honorable mentions in the Toledo Blade Snapshot contest over six weeks. His winning image shows a boy and girl, students at Ohio University in Athens, seated on auditorium steps after a movie.
Mr and Mrs James Brecht and daughters Ann and Nana came home Saturday from a vacation at Gem Beach near Port Clinton. Their cottage guests included Mr and Mrs Walhiam Mundy and children Joey Robin and Debbie and others.
Mrs Gertrude Mapes stays with her mother Mrs Grace Miller on Maple Street in Hicksville as Mrs Miller suffers critical illness. Mrs Mapes takes leave from LaSalles in Findlay during her mother’s extended hospitalization and multiple operations.

Mearl Atkins former Carey High School instructor and eight year head football coach resigns to become principal of North Baltimore High School on a three year contract set to start August 1. He has 22 years in education plus a 1952 master's from Bowling Green. He and wife will move to North Baltimore after securing housing. they have six children.
The Carey Shuffleboard Club held a Friday Aug 3 tournament won by Dorcas Donelson and Irma Smith over Mary Shiley and Henry Pieracini. Consolation winners were Harold Shiley and Norman Zahn over Elsie Long and Denny Donelson.
Mr and Mrs Clayton Twining of 204 Dow Street purchased the house at 593 West Street from Mr and Mrs Daryl Newman. They plan to move after remodeling. The Newmans and family now reside at 351 East Findlay Street, a home they bought from Mrs C C Thome.
Marilyn Tewell 16 daughter of Mr and Mrs Elbert Tewell of S Lake Street lies in Blanchard Valley Hospital with a mild spinal polio diagnosed though she shows no paralysis and is progressing well. She developed headaches and leg pain on July 30 and was admitted last Friday. her mother stays at the hospital to help care for her.
Mr and Mrs Floyd Shetler will spend the weekend with Mrs Shetler's brother-in-law and sister Mr and Mrs Bruce Mays at Massillon and attend a family reunion at the Mays home on Sunday. Their grandsons Larry Lee and Evan Earl Stuck of Akron will accompany them home for about two weeks.
Mr and Mrs Louw Bader and their sons Gene Leslie and David have moved from the H Crawford house at 21 West Street to Wharton.

The council met with L G Love of Findlay and G Kitzler of National Lime & Stone Co to seek a new water line from Brayton Street to the quarry edge for additional protection. They discussed budget figures, bids for a police car, land purchases from the federal government, and a water-side gate test for gravity flow. The meeting also reviewed the 1956 and 1957 general fund budgets and state examiner findings.
Kevin Lee, infant son of Mr and Mrs Donald Yingling, was baptized at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon in Our Lady of Consolation Church. Rev Ronald Preg Hasco OFM Conv officiated. Sponsors were Kevin Lee's uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs Norman Kromer.
A son named Stanley Kent Stombaugh was born to Mr. and Mrs. C. Robert Stombaugh on August 2. The parents announced the birth in a brief residence notice.
