Carey area petitions file for village election slate

Voters approved the city manager form and six non partisan candidates will be elected to the village council in the November 6 general election. The new council takes office January 1, 1946 and will select a mayor. Six petitions were filed to fill three vacancies on the Crawford County board of education. Two board members remain with terms not expiring. Names listed include D J Frazier and Dr Lowell Treece. Trustees for Crawford township also seek election with five to be chosen. Methodist Youth Fellowship Institute Returns Home

The Lakeside Methodist Youth Fellowship group came back Sunday from a weeklong institute with memories of a profitable experience. Attendees included Anna Schira Georgia O'Brien Joan Cole Peggy Laird Phyllis Snyder Ruth Wenner Patsy Laird Donald Woods Richard McCleary Vernon Huston Jr William Hunter L Jane Twining and Glenda Snyder. Chaperons were Mrs B G Snyder and Miss Mary Heck. The group received a plaque for meeting institute and Lakeside laws. About 900 Methodist youths from the Toledo and Defiance districts attended last week and another 900 were expected this week.

Brothers reunite during war across vast Pacific gap

Mrs Matthias Fox of Fos toria receives a letter from her brother Aloys N Stark S C 1 c who is in the Caroline Islands. He reports visiting his brother Cpl Ralph T Stark of the Army Air Corps on a 48 hour pass in the Mariana Islands. Cpl Stark serves as an electrical expert on a B 29. Aloys has three other brothers in uniform in the Southwest Pacific and California.

Navy Seaman Francis Ritter on 30 Day Leave

Francis Ritter of 522 East Grove Street returned Friday night July 27 for a 30 day leave. He serves aboard the U S S Kilty a destroyer transport and has seen action in 24 invasions with four under fire. He has two and a half years of navy service including 18 months in the Pacific. He is married with a daughter Sandra Ruth and will be in Findlay part of the leave time.

Carey Soldier Receives Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster

Sergeant Gerald L. Stoll of Company I 398th Infantry United States Army earned the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious service in World War II operations against the enemy from November 11 1944 to May 3 1945 in Belgium and Germany. He volunteered for extra duties on patrols and amid leadership duties his squad achieved notable results reflecting credit on himself and the Armed Forces.

Jack Tracy’s Teams Dominate Division Competitions

Lt. Jack Tracy athletic officer of the 175th Regt 29th Inf Div Bremen Germany reports his baseball team won first place in the division on July 4. Lt Richards Receives Presidential Citation Ribbon

Lt Kenneth Richards is among a group awarded the Presidential Citation Ribbon for combat at Hatton France in January. The 1st battalion 242nd infantry received the honor at a ceremony marking the 2nd anniversary of the 42nd division reactivation. General Keyes pinned the ribbon. Richards then presented ribbons to his combat teammates.

Lewis Ryan county commissioner purchased the 112 acre farm of Mrs. P. Smith located half a mile east of Delta for 30000. Crops on the farm added 2000 to the price. The rate per acre is about 276.85. The deal compares to other Archbold area farm prices.

Village Officials Meet With Engineering Firm Over Sewage Fix

The Carey village board and council met Carlton Finkbinder of Finkbinder Petit Stout Toledo to discuss sanitary sewer corrections. A lift station with automatic pumps near the A C and Y railroad was proposed to pump overflow into Brown's ditch at an estimated cost of $16,000. Council postponed action pending further investigation.

Doctor Van Buren Transferred to Germany

Captain H. K. Van Buren of the medical corps, after serving with the 7th Army in Austria on V-E Day, has been reassigned to an armored division in Germany. He is stationed in the Bavarian Alps and has made several trips. He left Carey practice 21 months ago and has been overseas 16 months, taking part in the invasion of southern France.
