Church Buys Electric Organ

The Memorial Evan. A. B. Church held its final business session of the conference year on Monday night. Officers for the new year were elected including Lloyd Sworden as president and Mrs. Samuel Newcomer as church secretary. An organ committee was authorized to purchase a Hammond electric organ from Grinnell Music Co. of Toledo to be installed by Christmas.

Moose Convention Set in Columbus for 59th Year

The Loyal Order of Moose holds its 59th annual convention in Columbus from August 17 to 21 with 25 000 members expected. Gov Thomas J Herbert and Columbus mayor James M Rhodes will welcome attendees as Moose members from state and city offices join the event. The Boy Scouts of America receive a 25000 dollar donation from the Moose supreme lodge. A 35 foot moose monument will symbolize Moose City during the week. Nineteen candidates were initiated by Carey Moose as Mansfield degree team officiated.

Ralph Livingston Visits Carey During Friday Stopover

Ralph Livingston of Columbus visited Carey on Friday while en route to Findlay for the wedding of Patricia Sink and Marion C. Howard Jr. Their son Robert, Purdue chemistry professor, could not attend. Livingston’s sister Hazel Bayne, a former Carey teacher, will teach in Lancaster schools this fall after studying at Ohio Northern. Bayne’s husband George Bayne died September 15 1946 in Columbus after a throat infection from a Lake Erie fishing trip. death listed as coronary thrombosis. He worked as an engineer in the Franklin County engineer's office.

Samuel E Shafer, discharged Tuesday from Findlay hospital, is recuperating at his daughter Mrs Charles Kiplinger’s home in Ashland. He can sit up and plans to stay several weeks. The trip was in Bristoll’s ambulance with son G W Shafer of Chicago and Mrs John Nelson of Carey. Shafer recently underwent an abdominal operation.

Recreation Bowling Alleys Open for Season

Glenn Walborn opened the Recreation Bowling Alleys for the season. They will be open daily from 2:00 pm for the afternoon and evening sessions. The lanes were resurfaced by Brunswick and a few circular bowlers benches added with ample fans and ventilation for hot days.
