Novena Devotions at Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation

A novena of devotions runs August 6 to 15 at the Shrine Church of Our Lady of Consolation honoring the Assumption. Weekday masses at 7:00 and 8:30 am, 2:30 pm prayers, and 8:00 pm services with procession and benedictions except August 14. Special services for pilgrims arrive, with Sunday masses and a 2:30 procession to St. Mary's Park. The feast day August 15 features hourly Masses from 5:00 to 12:00, confessions, and a blessing rite at 1:30 with the Cross relic. Bishop Karl Alter to participate in the August 14 procession and benediction.

Private Richard W. Patrick of Vanlue Ohio serves in the First Cavalry Division stationed in the Tokyo Yokohama area on occupation duty. He joined the Army in February 1947 after basic at Fort Lewis and trains with HQ troop 2nd Squadron 12th Cavalry Regiment under the Eighth Army commanded by Lt General Leischelberger.

Rev Koons Enrolls in Chicago Graduate School

Wheat Pours In at Carey Farmers Coop Elevator

During the week ending Wednesday noon the Carey Farmers Coop elevator took in 2300 bushels of wheat. The grain weighed 53 to 57 pounds per bushel and moisture ran about 14 percent, considered acceptable. Yield estimated at 15 to 20 bushels per acre, below expectations.

Fire Dept Answers Two Calls In Carey

The Carey fire department responded to two separate incidents Friday and Sunday. A fire at Lanning Motor Sales started on the garage floor after gasoline residue ignited from a pilot flame on a water heater, causing no reported damage. A lightning strike on a West Street barn ignited the north side, burning some feed before firefighters contained the blaze.

A 12-pound 134 ounce daughter arrived at 9 05 p m Friday at Findlay hospital to Mr and Mrs Arlis Orlans of 414 West street Carey. A 7 ½ pound daughter was born Monday at 7 30 a m to Mr and Mrs Andrew Williams at their home 129 W North street. Linda Sue is the name given to the latter. The mother is Mary Heck formerly Saxton Heck. Williams is the son of Ray Williams former Carey residents now living east of McCutchenville.
