Streets along Patterson and S Vance have been resurfaced with four inches of stone and compacted. Drains were added to remove surface water, and trash removal along S Vance has improved the right of way. Police officer Tong located a touring car with Michigan plates abandoned in a ditch near Bigelow Chapel. On Monday a Michigan party claimed the vehicle, saying one of their group drove it on Saturday when a radius rod broke, forcing the driver to abandon it for safekeeping.

Perry Bland longtime Carey resident dies suddenly

Perry Bland born October 3, 1864 in Wyandot county died after a hemorrhage Sunday at age 59 years 10 months. He married Serena Stratton March 31 1890 and is survived by wife a son Lawrence four brothers and one sister. Funeral Tuesday at 2 PM at the home with Rev W F Martin conductin burial in Spring Grove cemetery. Pallbearers included Marion Bland Paul Bland Myron Bland Forest Bland Lloyd Rife and Harry Rife.

Crowds Expected for August Shrine Pilgrimage

The August pilgrimage to Our Lady of Consolation opens next Saturday and runs through Sunday August 17. Large crowds are anticipated with two trains from Cleveland on the 15th and possibly a third. Additional special trains will come from Columbus and Detroit on the 17th.

Fatal Fall Crashes Two Workmen On Church Scaffold

A scaffold collapse at the Our Lady of Consolation church construction site in Carey caused William W. Martin of Columbus to die after injuries from a steel lath load. Edward Davis survived. Martin’s death follows a Friday accident that also left him with a broken hip and head lacerations. Funeral plans were set for Monday in Columbus with interment at Canal Winchester.

Methodist Church Plans Four Quarterly Conference and Dedication Week

The fourth quarterly conference will be held at the Methodist church on Thursday night August 14 with Dr C G C Peale presiding. Dedication of the new church is fixed for September 21 to 28 with Dr A E Smith of Ohio Northern University Ada present September 21 and Bishop Theodore S Henderson present September 28. A full week program includes an organ recital by Don H Coupe land, a youth play, a Ladiza Aid supper, a church fellowship hour, visiting pastors, and a later announcement. The Findlay district conference follows, as Bishop Henderson stays for sessions. farewell services set for September 14 in the old church.

Kiwanis Luncheon Discusses Canton Convention and Kenton Event

Kiwanis members gathered Monday for fellowship and club matters with no speaker. Delegates will be chosen soon for the district convention in Canton in September. Carey members attended the Kenton Kiwanis affair Tuesday with northwest Ohio Kiwanis present in the Chautauqua tent.
