C C Ashbrook of Findlay spoke at a Kiwanis noon meeting praising the club’s continuity and local impact. He lauded Findlay’s Fire Department, urged growth to 100 members, and proposed a steering committee to pursue community service ideas.
The Wittenberg Men's Gleen Club performs a concert at the high school auditorium tonight. The public is invited to attend.
Alterations under the American Legion transformed Carey Park pavilion from bare to attractive. A large rear stage enlarged the dance floor and removed the inside platform. Crepe paper decorations and Japanese lanterns create a festive setting attracting Carey residents and many outsiders to the dances.
Quarterly Conference Friday April 24 at 7 30 hosted by Rev D L Caldwell. Everyone welcome. Ladies Home and Foreign Missionary Society met April 21 at Clyde Heck home. Missionary Institute held April 20 with speakers Rev Jones Findlay Rev Lee Benton Ridge and Mrs Marshall Findlay.
The marriage of Miss Nellie M. Grady of Grove Street to Mr. Homer R. Jacobs near Carey was solemnized at the Methodist parsonage Friday at 11 a.m. The bride's mother Mrs. Charles Grady and sister Mrs. Lester Snyder attended. The couple will reside on a farm near Carey.
On Thursday evening, April 30, the Blue Side of the Pythian Sisters will present the entertainment and a play titled Those Husbands of Ours. Light refreshments will be served and admission at the door is 25 cents. The public is invited.
A weekend windstorm damaged muck land north and west of town, requiring resowing of about 100 acres. The gusts spread muck, fertilizer, and onion seed and drifted fields for hours, with the Scioto marsh hit even harder.
The pastor and many members attend the Delaware district convention at Kenton yesterday and today. Sunday services are held in the morning with evening stereopticon pictures shown by the pastor. Philadelphia the Most Distinctively American City and views of Washington and Mt Vernon teach a lesson as well as entertain. All are cordially invited.
Mr. Frank Brenner celebrated his 50th birthday with a Tuesday gathering at his south town home. About 38 friends attended a lunch, progressive games, dancing, and music, with many attendees listed including Mr and Mrs Brenner and children, and numerous neighbors and relatives.
The Wonder Bible class of the Lutheran Sunday school met with Miss Emma Stief Tuesday evening. A social time followed with refreshments served by a committee including Miss Stief Miss Essie Carothers Miss Katie Lortz Mrs. Frank Brown Mrs. Charles Brayton Mrs. Michael Gottfried Mrs. H. F. Graves Mrs. Winifred Hoff Mrs. C. C. Heck Mrs George Montague Mrs. Fred Nachbar Mrs. Harriet Pennington Mrs. George Brown Mrs. George Starr Mrs. Calvin Starr Mrs. Margaret Herbert and Mrs. D. J. Humbert.
The Lutheran church group met Monday evening at Mrs. H L Wenner's home with Mrs. E S Burson and Miss Mary Powell leading. The lesson "Under the Smoke Stacks of China" was studied, China readings were given, and several articles from China were shown. Three new members joined: Mrs Gust Summit, Mrs B Dabney, and Miss Gladys Lanker. Lunch was served by the hostess.
About 75 friends gathered at the northwest of town home of Mr and Mrs Arthur Phillips for a miscellaneous shower and bel ling given by the Big Lick Methodist Aid Society in honor of Mr and Mrs Willis Phillips newly married at Findlay. They served delicious refreshments.
The C L of C held a social Monday evening at the K of C hall with a delicious lunch served by a committee: Mrs Harry Tanner, Mrs Cyril Kramer, Mrs Clarence Clinger, Mrs C. D Kent field, Mrs Leo Courtad, Miss Mary Arnold, Miss Versa Orians, and Mrs Isadora McLaughlin.
The Pricila club met Tuesday afternoon at Mrs W L Lindsay’s home with roll call on current events and needlework. The hostess served a 6 o'clock luncheon. Mrs Jacob Hilty will host in two weeks.
Mr and Mrs Sheldon Kluepfer hosted a Sunday gathering with Mr and Mrs H I Black and Robert Lee of Vickery, Mr and Mrs Henry Beebe and daughter Edith of Fremont, and later evening callers Mr and Mrs Bernard Lee of Vickery.
An 8 pound 0 ounce son, Robert George, arrived for Mr. and Mrs. August Windau of Muncie street at the Home and Hospital Findlay on Saturday. A 10 pound 4 ounce son was born to Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Frederick last Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Karr and Mrs. Winifred Karr were Sunday guests of Mr. Miles Mullholand and daughter Miss May.
Mrs Catherine Wohlgamuth aged 94 died at her home southwest of town Monday afternoon from acute indigestion after a 12 hour illness. She was born Catherine Fease July 8 1831 in Starke County and was married to Daniel Wohlgamuth in 1855. Survived by sons Martin Carey Simon, Harvey, James with mother. deceased Joseph and Alice. Also seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral Wednesday at 1 30 p m at home with Rev H E H Thomas officiating. interment Bigelow Cemetery. Pallbearers John Kloepfer John Snook Charles Cole Charles Tong William Walters Willis Tong. Mrs R D McKinnon Bucyrus and Silas Weldman West Salem attended.
Agnes Van O Linda died Tuesday night at 11 30 at her S Vance Street home from paralysis after a fall while reaching for a sewing item. Funeral services are Friday at 2 00 PM at the home led by Rev Lewis P Speaker of Christ Lutheran Church. Burial in Spring Grove cemetery. She was born Agnes Carothers January 12 1850 west of Carey and married Addison Gardner Van O Linda April 3 1873. She is survived by sisters Mrs Henry Nigh Mrs Charles W Nye Miss Celestia Carothers and brother J D Carothers. She belonged to Christ Lutheran Church and Evangelical Home and Foreign Missionary society.
Mrs B E Swartz returned Tuesday evening from Bucyrus where she had been summoned by the serious illness and death of her brother Rollin W Craner. He died of pneumonia after a six day illness at age twenty five.
Rev Joseph P. Gloden tells how the miraculous statue from Berwick arrived at Our Lady of Consolation chapel. The piece lists many young women who carried the image during its throne ceremony and notes the golden jubilee celebration from May 9 to 17, fifty years later.
Infant Lois Eloise Baughman daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Baughman died after a brief pneumonia illness at home on Hast South St. She was born April 3 1925 funeral services were held at the home Friday Rev W F Martin officiating with Mrs I L Culler and Mrs Earl Burson singing burial was in Spring Grove cemetery The family expressed gratitude for floral tributes and assistance. Word later that Francis Sample was critically ill at Dawson Springs veterans hospital and a Monroe marriage record noted Wissker o Rife and Truman Kear son of Will iam Kear of Salem township wed.
All officers and members are urged to attend the Thursday evening meeting as candidates will be initiated.
The American Legion Auxiliary will hold its April meeting in the Legion rooms Monday evening at 7 30. Members are reminded to attend and participate in planned activities.
