Carey Athletes Shine in Wittenberg Intramural Meet

Carey sent Milton Trubey Gerald Bradley and William Ogg to the Wittenberg college intramural track meet in Springfield. Bradley rose to prominence in the broad jump and javelin while Trubey placed third in 220 and 440 yards. Ogg helped the Alpha meet Omega relay to a first place finish in the final event.

Rev. Lewis P Speaker to Lead Funeral Service

The Rev. Lewis P Speaker who has traced Ohio towns for three weeks aiding a Rockefeller gift drive to Wittenberg College officiated at the funeral of Mrs. A G Van O Linda. The drive ends Friday and he will resume services at Christ Lutheran church next Sunday after visiting Cincinnati churches and Niles areas this week.

Harness Auction Draws Crowd at Steen Shop Sale

A large crowd attended the auction sale at C. M. Steen's harness and shoe shop on Saturday afternoon. The event moved many goods, and the sale proved financially successful for the shop.

Christian Endeavor Anniversary Observed by United Brethren Church

Next Sunday the Christian Endeavor Society of the United Brethren church marks Anniversary Day with a sunrise prayer at 6 30. Morning services feature a youth work sermon and a talk by the C E B president. Junior and senior societies plan discussions and a life work recruit service. Obituary of Francis C. Sample World War veteran dies of tuberculosis

Francis C. Sample born August 22 1890 in Ridge township near Carey died April 22 1925 at Dawson Springs Kentucky aged 34. He served in U S Guards at Port Sheridan Illinois six months, worked at National Lime & Stone Co, and was a member of Disabled Veterans Association and Loyal Order of Moose. Funeral held at Lutheran church burial in St Paul cemetery with Moose pallbearers and firing squad. He left a widow Mission Buckingham and two children Elizabeth Getta May and Norman Chesley.

Thieves Break In Franks Ogg Home Seeking Cash and Goods

On Tuesday night thieves entered the Frank Ogg residence east of town through an unlocked kitchen door and took 76.90 dollars belonging to Mrs. Ogg along with a pocket knife and a woolen shirt. They ransacked the house, left a wrapped item in the hall, and moved items near the bed area without waking the occupants. Additional thefts occurred on BE Findlay street at nearby homes, including socks, food, and a sweater from several properties.

Kiwanis Luncheon Discusses Local Plans and Contests

The Kiwanis club held its Monday luncheon with no speaker. Attendees discussed booster days, a possible weekly band concert, and entries for a Potato Contest. A committee of Capell Diller and Burson will study program rotation and ten minute talks. Rev. Martin donated the day’s prize, won by H F Graves. a speaker is expected next meeting.

Woman Struck by Auto Near Hotel. Foot Injured

Mrs Jerry Merrihew was hit while crossing near the hotel as a touring car driven by J. Gaston of Toledo turned into a taxi stand. The vehicle struck her and ran over her foot. She, though hurt, can now walk without crutches.

Death at Dayton Claims Charles McCune at 69

Miss Mattie Myers traveled from Dayton after being summoned by the death of her brother in law Charles McCune in a Dayton hospital after an operation. He was 69 and survived by his wife, daughter Alice, wife of C E Chalfont of Pittsburg, a son Charles Carey McCune of Dayton, and siblings. He was an interior and exterior decorator.

Wittenberg Glee Club Gives Evening Concert at High School

The Wittenberg Glee Club performed last Thursday at the high school auditorium. Although the crowd was smaller than prior concerts, the program was highly entertaining. The Lutherfin church ladies provided dinner and supper for the boys in the church Sunday school room.

M. Hornby, long time superintendent of Carey public schools, will take a similar role in Maumee near Toledo. He will oversee 35 teachers and relocate with his family in early June, leaving many friends in Carey.
