Carey High School will host a demonstration driving test on April 29 at 1 40 p m in front of the school on B South street. Students and teachers will drive to stop on a marked block while police drivers perform high speed tests. A 30 minute lecture and movie precede the street demonstration with six students aiding in placement measurement and record keeping.
The Junior Classical League will host its annual Roman banquet on Thursday evening April 22 in the cafeteria. Students will wear Roman costumes eat replicas of ancient meals and enjoy entertainment during the meal served by ten junior Latin students. The group is sponsored by Miss Lucia Grieser.
Carey and Columbus Grove won first place in the one act play contests at Carey High School on April 9 and advanced to the State Finals April 16 and 17. Plays were Carey Shadow of a Dream and Columbus Grove Ye Shall Be Waiting. three of five entries earned superior ratings moving to state.
Carey sent entrants to the State Music Auditions held April 9 and 10. Qualification required a Superior rating at the district contests. Carey qualifiers included Joan Cole, earning a Superior in voice classic.
The New Riegel high school baseball team travels to Carey Friday afternoon for a 4:00 game. Carey’s starting pitchers are listed as Clark or Orians and Ying ling or Green.
The Carey Philharmonic Society conducts its annual spring concert Tuesday April 27 at 8 PM in the Catholic hall. Directed by W. Assemheimer of Upper Sandusky, with Mercedes Blie as accompanist, the program features The Old Mill Streamers and Rebecca Lear from Findlay in ballet numbers among pieces by Bach Dudley Buck Tchaikovsky Debussy and more.
Jess Hanna tenor Russell Barn hill and Arthur Woodford lead with Harley Dreisbach bass and Mrs Neil Baldwin as accompanist in a concert listing. The note highlights featured performers and their roles in the program.

The Dorcas Bible class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Friday evening at 7 30 with Mrs G W Summit on N Vance Street. Mrs L E Offenbacher and Mrs Selah Wohlgamuth will be assisting hostesses. All members of the class are urged to attend.
David Myers and Leonard Bakies of Troop 51 received the Ad Altare Dei Cross during Sunday services. Troop 54 attended in uniform as Rev. Marcellus Lell officiated. The cross recognizes First Class Scouts for altar service and Catholic living with 250 hours of altar work and Latin responses.

Harvey and Louise Sopher, children of Mr and Mrs Frederick Sopher, became ill last week from a poisoning blamed on blowing plastic bubbles. The substance in the plastic caused facial swelling around the eyes, nearly closing them. Harvey missed two days of school.
The Methodist Youth Fellowship sponsors a bake sale on Saturday April 24 at Dible's plumbing shop. Call Joyce Jenkins at 19 or Kaye Hall at X-28 to contribute. Proceeds fund the Lakeside fund.
Miss Jacqueline Kirkwood daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Kirkwood has accepted a position in the local office of the Ohio Fuel Gas Co She will replace Miss Dolores Windau who will marry May 8 Kirkwood has been employed in Columbus
The annual ladies banquet of the 40 er will be held Wednesday April 28 at 6 30 p m in Hotel Marion at Marion. Robert T. Mason will speak. he is Marion Chamber of Commerce president and WMRN broadcasting station president.
The Carey Townsend club will meet Monday evening April 26 at 730 in the library. President Jacob Nitrauer urges wide attendance as the group shares good news and participates in the program.
Carey temple No 169 Pythian Sisters will meet this Thursday evening for inspection practice. All members are urged to be present.
The men and women city bowling tournaments are in progress with 80 percent handicap. Porcelain won the women’s team title with 305 pins. Donelson’s Packers led team scores with 2987 pins. Gibson-Thome was third with 2951. In doubles Emma Schlachter and Mary Jane Brown led with 1289 pins. Polly Coldiron and Treva Bakies were second. Ruth Myers and Needine Michaels third. Margaret Logsdon topped singles with 684, Ruth McKee Way second and Polly Coldiron third. Paul Bland won the head pin contest with 116 after 10 strikes.
The Findlay Area Lutheran Men's League plans a banquet in Christ Lutheran Church parish house next Tuesday April 27 hosted by the Carey Lutheran Brotherhood. Speaker will be William E Hoare of Columbus treasurer of the American Lutheran Brotherhood of Ohio. New Christ Lutheran Brotherhood officers elected last Sunday include Richard L Wenner vice president Homer Robinson and George Burks secretary treasurer.
Landscape architect Mr Linnard has prepared a tree planting plan for Carey Memorial Park. Trustees and interested lodge and community representatives are invited to meet at the municipal building on Friday April 23 1948 at 730 pm to learn the recommended tree species and locations.
Richard Allen Niederkohr and Sharyn Lynn Fritchie were baptized at St Peter’s Catholic Church on Sunday afternoon. Parents are Mr and Mrs Leonard Niederkohr of N Eighth Street and Mr and Mrs John Fritchie Jr. of N Sandusky Avenue.
The local review of the WBA will meet Friday evening at 8 15 o clock in the Moose hall. A social hour will follow the lodge. All officers and members are urged to be present.

Preliminary work has begun to extend the Akron Canton and Youngstown railroad 42 miles from Akron to Youngstown with plans to reach the far end of the corridor.

A coon chase is scheduled for Sunday April 24 starting at 11 30 a m at the county fair grounds in Upper Sandusky. The event draws participants from the region and is announced in local notices.
In Crawford township captain Wen dell Wentling led a drive that raised 250.75 toward a 135 quota with solicitors including Mrs. Dodds and Mrs. Lortz. Ridge township surpassed its 55 goal with 100.50 raised under captain Mrs. Walter Klein and coordinators such as Mrs. Droll and Mrs. Wohlgamuth.
Sunday April 25 at 2 30 p m the Carey and Wyandot county Girl Scouts meet at St Peters school Upper Sandusky for a camp rally. The program includes flag ceremony talks on camping color movies from Camp Pittenger and Juliette Low ceremonies with troop contributions to the Juliette Low Fund. Parents urged to attend and support daughters efforts for peace and scouting work.

The Carey Farmers' Community club invites members to its annual meeting on Monday evening April 26 at the K of C hall. Program chairmen Robert Mott Leo Beagle and Floyd Shetler have hired Karl Downing of Van Buren to present two hog raising motion pictures. The Carey public schools announce a pre school pupil day on Friday April 30. Eligible pupils for next year are invited to visit the Colonel Crawford building or the West building at 1 00 PM to see what school is like.
