Carey firefighters fought three grass fires Monday afternoon. At 2 30 a stubble field fire near John Webbrs Sr. home spread toward farm buildings but was controlled. Later they tackled a stock yard blaze at Arlis Orians and a line along the A OC and Y railroad in the town's northwest.

A daughter weighing about 9 percent pounds and 7 46 a.m. was born Monday at Mercy hospital in Tiffin to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Logsdon of 87 Wentz Avenue. The baby is named Dianne Marie and is the Logsdons first child. Her mother is Rita Ann Myers of Carey and the baby is the first grandchild of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Myers of Carey. The father is Wilfrid Logsdon’s son. The Logsdons will visit Myers family next week.

Carey High Band Earns Superior Rating at District Contest
The Carey high school band received a unanimous Superior rating from three judges at the North Central District Band competition held at Hopewell London school. They performed Walking Tune as warm up King Cotton march as select piece and Gulls of Gaspe as select. The group qualified for the state final at Springfield high school on April 29. Seventeen instrumentalists enter five events at the State Solo and Ensemble contest at Capital University Columbus on April 22. Entries include an easy clarinet solo by John Welsh Jr brass quintet mixed clarinet quartet trombonetto and saxophone quartet, all certified for state contest after earning superior ratings at Elyria high school on April 1.
