Carey Philharmonic Plans Fifth Annual Concert Event

The Carey Philharmonic Society presents its fifth annual concert on Thursday evening April 20 at the Methodist church. Tenors Gordon and Marvin Hilty of Bluffton with accompanist George Tuttle of Vanlue, directed by A. P. Burkholder of Findlay, perform a varied program featuring works by Godard Purcell Elgar Handel and Bach among others. The chorus and soloists include Dorcas Baker Marjorie Kramer and many local singers with Mrs Paul Powell as accompanist.

Farmers and Sportsmen discuss conservation at new clubroom

The Farmers' and Sportsmen's Protective association met in their new town hall clubroom on April 11. They plan monthly meetings through summer with the next on May 9. Secretary S W McChesney Jr reported a state conservation department inquiry about the tearing pool and noted their League of Ohio Sportsmen membership.

Carey Rifle and Pistol Club Organized in April Meeting

The Carey Rifle and Pistol association formed at a special meeting held April 14 with many members helping ready the club room for the first shoot set for April 21 at 7 p m. Officers elected include President Al Schlachter Vice President Homer Bleam Secretary Robert Gardner Treasurer Paul Bland and Executive Officer Chnt hear. Eligible rifle shooters are urged to attend. admission is $1 per member and joining the Farmers' and Sportsmen's Protective association is required before club membership.

Changes in 1939 fishing laws favor Erie anglers

The Lake Erie black bass open season is moved to July 1 from July 15 and the minnow mesh size increases from one eighth to one quarter inch statewide. A digest of the fishing laws can be obtained from the Conservation Division in Columbus or from license dealers later.

Smokehouse Fire at Karg Farm Near Carey

Firefighters and neighbors battled a blaze at the Karg farm south of Carey last Thursday forenoon. The smokehouse and meat were destroyed but nearby residence and buildings were saved. Loss estimated around 150 dollars. The Karg family occupied the farm, owned by Mrs George Karg of S Patterson Street.

Recognition Service for Week Day School

The Week Day Church school will hold a recognition service at Christ Lutheran Church on Sunday at 10 30. The school closes its sixth year with 168 enrolled in grades one through eight and 32 students with perfect attendance. About 140 pupils attended on average, with teaching staff and helpers led by Miss Jennie Powell and Rev Paul R Cloaser among others.
