The stage crew prepares the operetta The Magic Bean stalk for April 21. Attendance at Carey High reaches 97.2 percent as flu effects fade. The school names 25 top students for the general merit award and announces plans for district competition and the 1939 graduating class.
A few much needed books were added to the high school library. The new titles are widely used by students and spark renewed interest in reading.
The Engagement King a one act play and ne verry intriguing mystery was staged by the public speaking class Monday morning. Monday afternoon the assembly enjoyed a program by the orchestra and students from Tiffin Business University. Fifth term grade cards were distributed Wednesday afternoon.
On April 5 Sycamore won by forfeit 15-14 after a batting order error. The game featured a 16-15 9th inning tie before the forfeit was declared. Carey schedules and a canceled April 11 New Riegel game follow with upcoming dates.
Three students earned perfect spelling during the six week period and another perfect six week test. Calvin Callahan Omeda Helen Leedy and Eloise Windau achieved the high scores. Separate win in arithmetic this week went to Calvin Callahan Marceline Risner Mary Ann Joseph Omeda Helen Leedy and Eloise Windau.
A group led by Jean Presler Patty Michaels Zellon Ritter Billy Rothge Clarence Coffman and Gene Blue achieved a perfect score in arithmetic. The past week 100 spell ing scores were earned by Nellie Barnett Gene Blue Marjorie Cole Joey Dible Arden Doppler Billy Dill Kenneth Dill Ronald Gibson Gene Fearer Donald Hill Joyce Luman Patty Michaels Howard Presler Jean Presler Zellon Ritter Joan Tong Robert Watkins Winfield.
The 6th and 6th grades of Our Lady of Consolation school stage Molly Be Jolly an operetta in two acts this Sunday April 16 at Catholic Hall. Curtain times 2 30 and 8 o clock. The cast includes Molly Peggy Ann Schlachter Ralph Helen and Steward and many neighbors and friends with an orchestra from Our Lady of Carey Seminary.
At the 10 30 o clock service on Easter Day the Sacrament of Baptism was administered to a group of infants and children. Those receiving the rite were Judith Ann Markley Melva Dianne Houghtelling Flora Jane McNutt James Francis McCarley Eileen Marie Fruth Ralph Jerry McCarley Sara Ruth Romig Harvey John Sopher Richard Roscoe Ruehle David Jerome Morrison Sandra Dee Morrison Gloria Constance Lupton James William Lupton Frederick Cloyd Snobarger and Shirley Ann Snobarger A capacity congregation filled the church to overflowing The choir sang an Easter anthem At the Ninth Hour by Shelley and the pastor spoke briefly on the significance on Easter Day The Holy Communion was administered.
Verena Kauffman of Alvada is valedictorian of Vanlue High School's 1939 class. Marie Waltermire is salutatorian. Kauffman also stars as Lena Rivers in the senior class play and is the grandniece of George W Bish of Carey.
The Mary Martha class of Christ Lutheran Sunday school will meet Monday evening at the home of Mrs Dean Powell northwest of Carey. Mrs D A Frazier, Mrs Melvin Houghtelling, and Mrs George Burks will assist as hostesses.
The Methodist Missionary Society will meet at 2 o'clock next Wednesday afternoon April 19 at the home of Mrs J A Shira on E Findlay Street. Mrs W Z Campbell will conduct the devotions.
Section I of the Fidelis study club will meet Thursday evening at the home of Mrs Eugene Theis on Vance Street. Mrs Russell Wickiser is to be hostess.
The Young Ladies sodality sponsors a mixed dance on Friday April 14 at the Catholic hall. Huss orchestra will provide music with admission set at 25e. Everyone is invited to attend.

The Ladies Aid of St Paul’s Evang Church gathered at Mrs Clarence Beck’s home for a noon potluck with Rev and Mrs Co R Reiff of Findlay and many guests. Afternoon program included scripture, prayer and songs with contests won by Mrs Reiff. Next meeting set for May 4 with Mrs Nellie Baughman.
An Upper Sandusky resident cites a Toledo overparking ticket in a metered zone after buying $80 of Toledo merchandise. He shows an Upper Sandusky welcome card claiming visitors may park indefinitely, issued by Mayor John Milligan and Police Chief C A Kirchner, as a rebuke to local enforcement.
The Carey Past Matrons of the Eastern Star will entertain the Past Matrons of Districts 10 and 26 at an all day meeting Friday. Dinner will be served at noon. An election of officers will be a featured event. Visitors expected from Upper Sandusky Marseilles Ada Kenton Forest Dunkirk and Nevada.
The Village Council will accept bids for zone or street marking paint up to April 24 at 7 pm. Colors spaces include 19 gallons white and 4 gallons orange. The clerk, Jacob Nitrale m, will receive bids and the council reserves the right to accept or reject all bids.

A potluck Fellowship Dinner will be held Friday April 14 at 6 30 p m at the Methodist church to welcome new members since September 1 1938. The Aid society ladies plan the meals and Mrs C G Laird will lead the program to foster better acquaintance among members.
The Evangelical church plans post Easter sermons starting next Sunday with morning services at 10 30 and 8 p m The four post Easter and pre Pentecost messages cover Christ and the Future of His Cause and include topics such as The Place of Discipleship The Conservation of His Message The Enduring Foundation and Christ and the Church The youth series titled Major Choices of Life will hold evening sessions on four Sundays beginning April 23 with topics Your Faith Your Church Your Task and Your Home.
Rev W L Martin, 65, pastor of Grace Evangelical church Canton, died in a head on collision near Massillon. Driver Jack B Thompson 37 Massillon also killed. tire blow out suspected. Martin had just returned from Columbus with his daughter Miss Phyllis a teacher in city schools who had been home on vacation.
Mr and Mrs R C Beebe announce the marriage of their daughter Helen Louise to Raymond J Biggs of Toledo. The ceremony took place Friday evening at Wallace Beebe and wife’s home in Bucyrus. Guests included Mr and Mrs R C Beebe of Carey and Mr and Mrs F B Schwarer of Chicago.
The Pythian Sisters of Findlay invite Carey members to attend an inspection meeting at Juno Temple on Tuesday April 18. For further information, call Mrs Myrtle Perkins.
An pound son named Thomas Wayne was born to Mr and Mrs Gall Newell at Findlay hospital on Good Friday. Mrs Newell and the newborn returned home on the following Monday.
A representative of the unemployment office will be at the courthouse in Upper Sandusky from 9 am to 3 pm on Wednesdays to assist claimants.
Members of the Farmers' and Sportsmen's Protective association met at the town hall on Friday April 7 to form a rifle club open to all members. Twenty four have joined and the first shoot dates will be announced. A special Rifle club meeting is set for Friday at 7 pm. Anglers are informed of a new weekly fish and water report from the conservation division published Saturdays in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Farmers' and Sportsmen's Protective association asks residents to purchase hunting and fishing licenses from authorized agents. Revenue will fund the club's purchase of fish and game for liberation in the locality.
Wyandot County young people gather in Nevada at the Lutheran church. Program includes devotions, addresses by W L Manahan, music by local school choruses, discussion groups on leadership and church issues, a banquet, and installation of officers.
Mrs Eva Betts wed Perry Breitigam and Cecil R Nye married Miss Martha Potteiger on March 27 in Greenup Kentucky. The Potteigers are from Fus toria and Defiance hosted the other ceremony on March 12.

The Carey Philharmonic Society stars its fifth annual concert on Thursday evening April 20 at the Methodist church. Gordon and Marvin Hilty of Bluffton sing with George Tuttle of Vanlue as accompanist under director A. P. Burk of Findlay. The program features operatic arias and choral works including Elgar, Handel, Bach, and Brahms with soloists, duets, and a chorus arrangement.
The Wyandot County Agricultural Conservation association announces a farmers and businessmen banquet at St Pauls Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky on Wednesday evening April 19 at 7 30. Elmer F Kruse state chairman will be principal speaker. Tickets 60 cents at the door. Public invited to hear a vital question of great importance to both farmers and businessmen.
Harold Kuenzli of east of Upper Sandusky bought the Charles Hoepf farm of 108% acres east of Carey in Tymochtee township for 6000 dollars at a public sale held in Upper Sandusky Saturday. Hoepf will continue to live on the farm. Frank Clouse of New Riegel acted as auctioneer.
The CTC class of Memorial Evangelical church will meet at 30 Welock on Friday evening April 14. Mrs Clarence McCormick will assist. Attendees should assemble at Mrs Paul Powel’s home on So Vanee street.
The Star Dusters and a Fremont orchestra will provide music for a Thursday evening dance at Laiddas Hall titled Beagles Dance. The event promises lively dance tunes with the local and visiting musicians contributing to the program. Music from the Fremont group has appeared in Carey on several occasions.
