Diane Rife and Sue Roynon, Carey High School juniors, were selected to represent Carey at Buckeye Girls State, a project of the American Legion Auxiliary. Miss Berniece Hunter suffered body bruises after a two car collision at 9 25 p m Saturday south of Carey on U S 23 near the Indian Trail Drive In Theater She rode in the front seat of a southbound 1961 Ford driven by her sister Mrs Francis Richards Mrs Edward Mathias driving a 1960 model attempted to pass the Ford when the crash occurred Mr Richards and son Rodney were also in the first car The Wyandot County Sheriff s Department cited Mrs Mathias for improper passing.

Hearing Set April 30 on Highway Relocations

P E Masheter director of Ohio Department of Highways issued a public hearing notice on relocating Routes U S 23 S R 103 and S R 15. The session begins 10 a m Tuesday April 30 in the Common Pleas Court room Upper Sandusky. Proposals include moving U S 23 south on Vance and across the Findlay Branch to S R 103.

Women travel to California for two week visit

Mrs J Dible and Mrs F D Hurd depart Dayton by jet for Los Angeles on a two week visit to relatives and friends. Mrs Dible will stay with daughter and family in Palmdale including infant Anna Margaret. Mrs Hurd will be hosted by Mr and Mrs Al Picou in Palmdale. Both plan return by plane.

Five local boys complete 50 mile hike to Bucyrus and back

No Fishing Ban Placed At Recreational Lake

Recreational Park Lake is closed to fishing from now through May 19 to coincide with the Fishing Derby opening. Lake manager Floyd Allison reports no winter fish loss and notes moss prevention treatment. Plans to enlarge the club house and tree planting are slated, with a work meeting at 9 am Saturday. Mrs Roy Ryder, a longtime Carey Telegraph operator, notes Bert Bachar’s 50 years with Snyder Lumber Co is a fine record but she can do better. She has worked for the New York Central 54 years as of last October and jokes that she cannot match Bachar’s age of over 79 because she started very young.

Village council weighs renewals and bids for park coverage

The village council discussed insurance options during a three hour session. Paul A. Burson won a 112.10 annual premium bid for a three year policy covering fire, extended coverage and vandalism on seven Memorial Park structures valued at 36 600 with American Economy of Indianapolis. He urged unified coverage across all village structures and renewals until policy expiration dates align. A mandatory retirement age for police was considered but tabled.

Carey Jaycees hear survey for Memorial Park repairs

Larry Mates and Robert F. Hunter attended the Carey Jaycees meeting. Mates cited a Memorial Park survey showing needs for maintenance, paint, clean up, and noted issues with a sidewalk break near the pool, lamp posts, drainage at drinking fountains, concrete posts by driveways, and mud at the ball park in wet weather. He will present a fuller list later. A proposed rubbish burning ordinance faced opposition to burning in a closed container and was sent back to the village solicitor for rewording.
