Buckeye Boys State Delegates Named From Carey High

Carey High School juniors James Heck George Cressman and William Windau were chosen to attend the 1963 Buckeye Boys State in Columbus June 13 to 99. Sponsors include Earl Green Post 344 American Legion Carey Kiwanis Club and Carey Jaycees. Selection was by competitive exam in government based on grades recommendation leadership sportsmanship scholarship courage and civics interest.

Senior Class Play Receives Acclaim

The Carey seniors staged The Miracle Worker to large appreciative crowds last Thursday and Friday. Josephine Troiano as Helen Keller and Carol Putnam as Annie Sullivan drew praise for flawless performances. Cast members Paula Powell David Myers led a talented group with strong make up and period staging enhancing the 1880 setting.

New Long Distance Rates Announced For Northern Ohio

President Wm C Henry announces new long distance rates for Northern Ohio Telephone Company subscribers. Effective April 4, 3 minute calls to any U S location cost $1 or less for calls from 9 p m to 4 30 a m. Earlier coast-to-coast rates remain $1 75 for 6 p m to 9 p m. After nine rates aim to boost overnight use. A 10 percent federal excise tax applies to the $1 rate.

Carey Motorist Injured in Collision Near Alvada

Miss Catherine Krupp, 22, of 151 S Muncie Street, suffered a fractured nose, facial lacerations and bruises when her car sideswiped a tractor trailer north of Alvada at Route 23 and a township road. She was treated at Fostoria City Hospital and may have chest injuries. The New Riegel school bus caused the semi to be avoided. Terry D Osborn, 23, of Jackson, drove the semi and escaped injury.

Carey Jaycee Ettes Hear Benefit Drive Report

The Carey Jaycee Ettes met at Mrs. Howard Snowberger’s home to hear a final report by Mrs. Robert Gibson on the Carolyn Hunter Benefit Drive. The group raised 1164.52 from the Style Show, churches, organizations, and local containers. A Mother's Day bake sale is planned for May 11 at Dible's Appliance Store, with a Baby Sitting Clinic next fall.

Scout Leaders Roundtable April 18 at St Pauls Lutheran

Easter Lilies Donated by Christ Church Parishioners

Members and friends of Christ Church will place Easter lilies in the chancel in memory of loved ones or in honor of friends. After the service the plants are delivered to donors homes and church bought lilies go to shut ins.

Naval Airman Will Go To Newfoundland

Naval Airman Richard Knowlton has completed a four month aviation mechanics course in Memphis Tennessee and will leave for Newfoundland on April 22. He will return home on furlough until then and plans to travel by plane.

Donelson Verifies His Baseball Record

The Sporting News confirms Donelson played 11 seasons from 1918 to 1928 with teams Buffalo Syracuse Jersey City and Scranton. His batting average was .287 with top marks of .313 in 1922 and .331 in 1925 and 1927. A 1928 injury ended his career after eight games.

Donate Tree for Library Lawn

Mr and Mrs James C Lindsay presented the Dorcas Carey Public Library with a 12 year old Colorado spruce for the east lawn replacing an elm removed about a year ago. Lindsay and John G Greer planted the tree after raising it from a two year old seedling. Carey Library trustees thank the Lindsays. Jaycees previously donated a similar tree for the west lawn.

Area teachers from nine counties gather in Carey for a 4 star program. Wyandot county teacher Mrs. Ruby Kanzig welcomes attendees and leads the morning circle. Sessions include plus and minus aspects of the program led by Mrs. Roma Wickendon and discussions on classroom disciplines and curricula development. The state filed April 3 in Seneca County Common Pleas a request to suspend Dale Eugene Feasel's license for one year. A hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. April 29. The application cites DUI in Fostoria Municipal Court on March 10, 1963 with 6 points and leaving the scene of an accident in Sandusky Municipal Court on July 16, 1962 with 6 points.

Bachar 616 E Findlay Street the Vanlue born carpenter who joined Snyder Lumber Co in 1913 and later moved to the Carey plant He built a famed spiral staircase for a Findlay physician and remains active in bowling while serving in Carey village government through the 1940s and beyond He plans to work as long as able and reflects on changes in cabinet making from steam power to electricity

The Raymond Yinglings visited Harold Vaughn near Crawford. George Pickens spent Saturday in Plymouth due to the death of Grace Brown. Dr H K Van Buren of Findlay and Mrs Delcie Snyder visited Mrs Ronald Van Buren and infant Christina Marie at University Hospital Columbus. Snyder stayed two weeks.

Four Novices Professed By Commissary Provincial

The Rev. Thomas Aeschbacher of Milwaukee professed four novices of St. Anthony Fraternity in a ceremony at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation. Fr. Hubert Kobhinski and Fr. Bartholoméw Leis assisted. Fr. LeRoy Paul presided. The newly professed are Regina Schuerman Agnes, Bertille Schuerman Clara, Mildred Wuebbe Carey, and Arden Nye Theresa. The service included a blessing, crucifix presentation, and benediction. The next meeting is Monday May 13 at 7 pm.

Soap Box Derby Open To Carey Boys

Carey boys aged 11 to 15 are invited to enter the Findlay Soap Box Derby with a path to the National Derby in Akron this summer. Entrants receive a derby T shirt and helmet. prizes include a 7500 dollar college scholarship. Local sponsors supply axles and wheels while boys build their own cars. Two age groups exist and entry blanks are at Harrington Chevrolet Findlay. Transportation aid is available through the Carey Jaycees with contacts Robert F. Hunter and Howard Snowberger.
