Vanlie 8th Grade Commencement Program Summary

The Vanlie school held its 8th grade commencement on a Wednesday evening in the school auditorium. The program included songs, piano and accordion solos, dances, readings, plays including Catching Clara and act 3 of a play, duets, a class history and prophecy, a gong salutation, a boys quartet, a sailing gong, and the presentation of diplomas.

Stray 25 Foot Strap Iron Rail Found Along Forest Right of Way

Howard Gobrecht and Ray Barth discovered a 25 foot strip of old strap iron rail buried in mud for about 75 years along Forest right of way. The 175 pound piece remained bright when cut and was held by 6 inch spikes at 15 inch intervals. G H Hopper received some rail made into paper weights.

Funeral Attends Honor Mrs Sheridan and Family

Mrs C D Sheridan of west of town and Mr and Mrs C M Ryder and daughter Mary Louise and Mrs Lorraine Huddle of Marion attended a funeral. They went to Elyria to attend the funeral of Mrs Adam Decker of Cleveland, aunt to Mrs Sheridan and Mrs Ryder.

Rebekah Lodge to Celebrate 110th Anniversary

The local Rebekah lodge marks the 110th anniversary of its founding on Tuesday evening April 23. Members are urged to attend for a program and a cake walk. A pot luck supper will conclude the gathering.

Knights of Pythias Amend By Laws and Benefits

At the regular meeting the Knights of Pythias read the proposed by law amendment for a third time. The lodge now offers four dollars a week sick benefits and will admit new members at age eighteen. Other issues are pending as the order aims to safeguard morals and benefit members. Carey Knights host a radio for entertainment and social opportunities in their club rooms.

Eighth grade pupils from Carey high school and 9 country schools, plus some from Our Lady of Consolation, sat the eighth grade test on Monday. Results will be announced later.

Done In Oil Comedy at Braun Home Near Ladyfern Lake

A community group plans a future presentation of the comedy Done In Oil at the Braun home near Ladyfern Lake New York. Mrs Perle Snook and daughter Lois of Carey stayed with Perry Presler’s family. Wayne, home from Great Lakes, Ill., returned from a 20 days furlough.

Free Lecture by J W Stuber At Strand Carey

J W Stuber secretary of the League of Ohio Sportsmen and former Ohio Conservative Council executive secretary will give a free talk at the Strand Theatre Carey on Tuesday evening April 23. The lecture will include moving pictures of Ohio wildlife and outline efforts of the fish and game commission to boost wild game. Admission is free to all, but children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent. Show starts at 8:00. The Rod and Gun Club helped bring this exhibition to Carey.

Finger Cut Off In Washing Machine Accident

Tuesday morning Mrs. John Nye of North street lost the third finger when her right hand was caught in the motor washer by her two year old daughter Marribelle. Dr S R Bame attended and dressed the wound.

Mrs Josephine Crooks of Galion Dies After Illness

Mrs Josephine Crooks formerly of Toledo died Thursday April 11 at her sister Mrs Kathryn Haines home in Galion after eight months illness. She leaves many siblings including Joseph B Vetter and Loretta J of Bucyrus. Funeral at St Patrick church Galion with Solemn Requiem Mass. Burial at Holy Trinity Bucyrus. Cleveland Doctor Called For Mrs Houk In Illness

Dr. Willis Stoner, a Cleveland heart specialist, visited Sunday to consult on Mrs. W. H. Houk who has been ill since December. Today she will be taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland for treatment. Her husband and daughter Miss Gertrude will accompany her, with Miss Gertrude remaining for a time.

Operation at Toledo Performs By Dr Ben Gillett

Miss Gertrude Yohe underwent an adhesion operation at Robbinwood Hospital Toledo on Wednesday at 1000 am. Dr Ben Gillett performed the operation successfully. Her parents Mr and Mrs J L Yohe and her brother Rev Virgil Yohe were present. Mrs Yohe will remain for a few days patient recovery.

Lime plaster plant to add thirty jobs

The National Lime and Stone Co plans to boost plaster output at the local plant by hiring 30 additional workers. It is believed the old kilns will be reopened, expanding production capacity.
