Rev. E. Luther Spaid at the Lutheran church gave an illustrated sermon on emigration from Southern and Northern Europe and Asia. The talk stressed home mission work as patriotism and the role of immigrants as future Christians and neighbors. Scandinavians were praised as among the best adopted citizens. A stormy evening did not deter a large congregation.

County Treasurer C. E. Frederick received a letter from Carey Thursday containing a $10 bill and a $5 bill with an unsigned note stating the amount for taxes. The funds exactly cover the Carey corporation taxes on $1,500 for one year.

Chas E Thorne director of the Ohio Experiment Station denies a press claim that a station official predicted near total ruin of Ohio wheat after the flood. He labels the statement a falsehood from an irresponsible journal and asks papers to publish the correction.
A. N. Lipold visited Phil Henn in West Liberty last week noting he is improving after a terrible flood left him battered. He bears bruises black eyes and a nose injury at the bridge.
