Pacific Coast Aid For Flood Sufferers Highlighted

Mrs. A A Reynolds of Vancouver Washington sends clippings from the Oregon Journal showing flood relief efforts. Vancouver theatres contributed one evening’s proceeds minus running costs to the Red Cross for Indiana and Ohio flood sufferers. Portland sent over 25000 dollars, schools and teachers gave, the Journal and Ohio societies sent more than 5000 dollars.

Last Session of Season for Mehr Licht Club

The Mehr Licht Club held its final meeting of the 1912-18 season last Thursday evening with Mrs. J. C. Dow as hostess. Roll call featured original sayings by children and Mrs. W. G. Bradley presented a paper on Alice and Phoebe Carey. Mrs. A. E. Constien offered Phoebe Cafey's The Fishers by the Sea as a select reading.

The Inconsiderate Flood and Aftermath

George Wright of east of town finished an eighty-rod eight-rail fence before the flood. High waters arrived Tuesday and washed away every rail. Tile ditches on the Robert Hetzel farm suffered breaks as waters washed out tiles. Brayton and Hurd farms became a dumping ground for farm loot, with rumors of a rum mage sale.

Longtime West Main resident Mrs. Amos Bixby dies

Mrs. Amos Bixby, born Eunice Straw on January 5 1887 in Bowsherville, died at 3 15 a m Saturday at her West Main street home after a long illness. She married twice first to William Snyder and later to Amos Bixby. she cared for her step and foster family, including Alice Laughlin and Little Miss Mary. Survived by her brother Malachi Straw of Brownsville Nebraska and other relatives. Funeral Monday at her home led by Rev. E Luther Spaid with interment at Spring Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers listed and out of town attendees named.
