Vacation Church School Planned at Christ Lutheran

Plans were laid for a Vacation Church School at Christ Lutheran Church for community children. It will likely open Monday April 24 with registration the prior week. The program will operate on a free will plan with no registration fee. The kindergarten serves ages 3 to 5, primary 6 to 8, junior 9 to 11, and intermediate 12 to 14.

Good Friday Observance at Our Lady of Consolation

Good Friday services at Our Lady of Consolation Church begin with an 8:00 a m pre-sanctified mass on Thursday and continue Friday with a reading of the crucifixion prayers adoration of the cross and a 12 to 3 pm continuous service featuring talks by Rev Paul Vollrath and Rev Aloysius Hansen. Senior exams yield county top student and honors

Superintendent Ralph Broede announced county results from the senior examination held March 25. Martha Elizabeth Ward of Sycamore led with 232. Elizabeth A Mohre of Eden and Justine Gibbs Staib of Sycamore tied for second at 227. Margaret R Haford of Carey was fourth at 226. Helen Ruth Case of Eden fifth at 225. Rounding out the top ten were John Howard Yohe of Carey, Thomas Anthony Bristol of Wharton, Merilee Adams of Nevada, and Ruth Louise Schwebel of Eden with scores from 215 to 196. All graduates placed in the upper 25 percent and will receive certificatory testamenting their achievement.

Public Grange meeting to welcome new neighbors

Eighth grade test results at Carey High School

On Saturday April 1, fifty five eighth graders from public and parochial schools took the state eighth grade test at Carey High School. Twenty six ranking high scorers are listed with Eleanor Krout leading at 150 and Roy Daniel Phelps at 113.

Good Friday Union Service Planned at Evangelical Church

A Good Friday union service by Carey churches will convene tomorrow at 1 30 PM at the Evangelical Church. The program follows the theme Seven Words From the Cross with local pastors and a quartet presenting selections and hymns. Churches close shops from noon to 3 PM for the hour of worship.

Infant Darlene Boes Died in Hopewell Township

Darlene Anna Boes five day old daughter of Herman and Pauline Boes died Thursday afternoon at the family home in Hopewell township Seneca county. Survived by parents and one sister. Deerwester pleads not guilty to Hancock assault charge

L. W. Deerwester of Findlay pleads not guilty in Hancock county common pleas court to assault and battery charges. He was indicted last Friday for assault and battery against C. W. Deerwester, also of Findlay, and formerly superintendent of the Carey water and light plant from 1928 to 1931.

A stranger visited the office on Monday seeking the rate per inch for advertising and returned later with two names of non-advertisers. He charged a quarter and left with 12 cents after claiming to need cigarettes. The office suspects advance payments for ads and notes the two non-advertisers refused regular rates yet fell for a higher priced scheme.

Beer returns to Upper Sandusky after ordinance lapse

Owing to a village ordinance not repealed in time Upper Sandusky had no beer until Wednesday though it was on sale in Carey Sunday. Many residents crossed to Carey to buy beer the first of the week. Simonis' grocery is said to be the only place in the county for off sale. Hazel's restaurant Joe Schira John Simonis Henry Pieraccini and Donelson's restaurant hold beer serving licenses.

Carey Public Schools Closed Until Fall By Board Action

About a dozen attendees at a Carey board of education meeting at the high school auditorium watched as the district decided to keep schools closed for the term. Assistant education director Joseph Fichter outlined state aid principles and warned that continuing the term could cripple next year. Local tutoring is discouraged unless families move out of the district. credits will be arranged for pupils in other districts. Agriculture may be dropped from next year’s local course if funding changes persist.

Death of Harvey Wohlgamuth 65 in Carey Area

Harvey Wohlgamuth died at 5 10 in his home four miles south of town after a two year battle with throat cancer. Funeral services were held at his home with Rev Howard of Forest Church of God officiating. Burial followed in St Paul cemetery south of Vanlue. He born September 24 1867 on a Carey area farm. survived by wife Celia Roller, a son Park who died in infancy, three brothers Martin James Simon, and was a member of the Forest Church of God.

Operation at Findlay for Mrs Lefferson
