Plans were laid for a Vacation Church School at Christ Lutheran Church for community children. It will likely open Monday April 24 with registration the prior week. The program will operate on a free will plan with no registration fee. The kindergarten serves ages 3 to 5, primary 6 to 8, junior 9 to 11, and intermediate 12 to 14.
Good Friday services at Our Lady of Consolation Church begin with an 8:00 a m pre-sanctified mass on Thursday and continue Friday with a reading of the crucifixion prayers adoration of the cross and a 12 to 3 pm continuous service featuring talks by Rev Paul Vollrath and Rev Aloysius Hansen. Stores close 12 to 3.
The paper debates running a beer advertisement under new rules. Readers are asked for their views on whether beer ads are legitimate and acceptable during or after prohibition era restrictions.
Superintendent Ralph Broede announced county results from the senior examination held March 25. Martha Elizabeth Ward of Sycamore led with 232. Elizabeth A Mohre of Eden and Justine Gibbs Staib of Sycamore tied for second at 227. Margaret R Haford of Carey was fourth at 226. Helen Ruth Case of Eden fifth at 225. Rounding out the top ten were John Howard Yohe of Carey, Thomas Anthony Bristol of Wharton, Merilee Adams of Nevada, and Ruth Louise Schwebel of Eden with scores from 215 to 196. All graduates placed in the upper 25 percent and will receive certificatory testamenting their achievement.
On Friday evening April 14 at the grange hall two miles south of West Independence the Biglick Center grange hosts a get acquainted meeting to honor families who moved into the area. Mrs Nellie Taylor leads the lecture hour and the public is invited to meet new people and make new friends.
Rev Paul R. Clouser of Christ Lutheran church will deliver the baccalaureate sermon to McCutchenville High School graduates Sunday evening at the Reformed Church in McCutchenville.
The Wyandot county ministerial association formally stated at its April meeting that it is wholeheartedly against repealing the Eighteenth Amendment. The group voiced strong support for maintaining prohibition and urged continued enforcement.
At Christ Lutheran Church Rev Paul R Clouser presided as Caroline Gottfried Jeanette Shannon and Herbert Shannon received confirmations. Floyd Kauble was baptized. A group of past confirmation class members from 1925 were recognized. Senior and Junior choirs sang Ride On Ride On in Majesty. Listed choir members include Joe Newhard Margaret Elleh Zeis Betty Montague June Criger and many more. Millicent Warren directed with Helen Beebe as assistant.
On Saturday April 1, fifty five eighth graders from public and parochial schools took the state eighth grade test at Carey High School. Twenty six ranking high scorers are listed with Eleanor Krout leading at 150 and Roy Daniel Phelps at 113.
Science Lodge of Masons presented When Temples Were Inns at the Sandusky City Masonic temple. The play, by Dr Charles H Merz, traces lodge meeting sites from 1730 to 1740 using Rummer & Grapes Tavern records in Westminster. Local members Wm Zahn L N Zahn P C Goff M D Shafer attended. refreshments followed.
A solemn high mass at 7 30 Sunday in the main church features Leonard’s mass in E flat and Haee Dies for the offertory. The choir is joined by Millicent Warren violin C C Simonis cornet Rita Brown saxophone and Giles Simonis trombone. A low mass follows at 10 00.
Mrs Walter Gottfried of east of town received word that her sister Mrs Hildred Winey of Toledo is a patient at East Side hospital after suffering a fractured and dislocated hip Thursday evening last week when she was tripped on the dance floor at the Y.
The C I C class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school will meet Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Allen Powell on High street. Mrs Paul McArthur and Mrs John Sheridan will be assisting hostesses.
A Good Friday union service by Carey churches will convene tomorrow at 1 30 PM at the Evangelical Church. The program follows the theme Seven Words From the Cross with local pastors and a quartet presenting selections and hymns. Churches close shops from noon to 3 PM for the hour of worship.
Akron couple welcomes a 9 pound baby boy born Sunday, formerly Carey residents. Tiffin couple adds a 6 pounds 4 4 ounce son born Sunday, Ronald Charles, christened at St Marys. Paternal grandparents Charles Smith of Tiffin serve as sponsors. Eugene Smith’s wife Helen Bees bears a son, Bonnie Lee, a 9 pounds 6 ounces girl born Saturday morning at the Young home on S Lake Street.
Darlene Anna Boes five day old daughter of Herman and Pauline Boes died Thursday afternoon at the family home in Hopewell township Seneca county. Survived by parents and one sister. Funeral held 9:30 am Friday at St Joseph's church Tiffin with burial in parish cemetery. Attendants included Frank Bees Adrian Lowery Neiderkohr and Glenn.
The Young Ladies Sodality will serve supper and hold a parish hall dance Thursday evening April 20. Supper is from 5 00 to 8 00 with Swiss steak mashed potatoes lima beans perfection salad pie and coffee. Hagerman’s orchestra of Fostoria provides music. Admission 25 cents includes everything.
L. W. Deerwester of Findlay pleads not guilty in Hancock county common pleas court to assault and battery charges. He was indicted last Friday for assault and battery against C. W. Deerwester, also of Findlay, and formerly superintendent of the Carey water and light plant from 1928 to 1931.
Judge Rutherford will address the public Sunday evening April 16 from 7 to 8 p m on WAIU WCAH WHK and a nationwide network. The program titled The Way of Escape covers salvation and faith for listeners.

A stranger visited the office on Monday seeking the rate per inch for advertising and returned later with two names of non-advertisers. He charged a quarter and left with 12 cents after claiming to need cigarettes. The office suspects advance payments for ads and notes the two non-advertisers refused regular rates yet fell for a higher priced scheme.
Kiwanis members discussed general topics and noted Joseph Fichter of Columbus could not attend to speak. H B Stief described his Florida trip and optimism for better times. The club reported being out of debt. School board members J T Myers and G R McKee attended as guests. W G Riley to track absentees. W S Huffman and T E Prom gald named reception committee for next week.
Owing to a village ordinance not repealed in time Upper Sandusky had no beer until Wednesday though it was on sale in Carey Sunday. Many residents crossed to Carey to buy beer the first of the week. Simonis' grocery is said to be the only place in the county for off sale. Hazel's restaurant Joe Schira John Simonis Henry Pieraccini and Donelson's restaurant hold beer serving licenses.
All members are urged to attend the regular meeting on Tuesday evening April 11. An attendance contest has begun and plans will be made to attend a set-together meeting at Fostoria on Wednesday April 26.
Virgil Ward of near Vanlue was taken Monday afternoon to Findlay Home and Hospital in Bristol and Kear's ambulance for an appendicitis operation.
Seniors at the main floor west rooms pursue extended work to graduate this spring. Supt. Arnholt teaches English and biology with Huffman on sociology ethics. Romig handles agriculture arithmetic chemistry and physics. Warren teaches American literature French II and public speaking. Pahl covers typing and shorthand.
With the closing of school many activities like track and the Junior-Senior banquet and senior class play are dropped, but the band will still hold a concert.
The senior F F A boys are selling candy to raise funds for a Washington trip planned for early this summer.
Easter Sunday cantata titled The First Easter by Tillotson and Wilson directed by Mrs W R Shisler at 8 00 pm with soloists Miss Lucy Laughlin Wendell Wentling Paul Powell and others the public invited to attend followed by a postlude and benediction.
Mr and Mrs Bert Theis of 24% miles east of town set out 5 000 frost proof Early Copenhagen cabbage plants and expect 5 000 more ready by week’s start. These field grown plants endure cold and four years ago they set these plants by April 1 with frost failing to kill them.
H G Feasel resigns from the village council and moves to a farm north of town. His successor will be appointed at the council meeting on Monday evening.

About a dozen attendees at a Carey board of education meeting at the high school auditorium watched as the district decided to keep schools closed for the term. Assistant education director Joseph Fichter outlined state aid principles and warned that continuing the term could cripple next year. Local tutoring is discouraged unless families move out of the district. credits will be arranged for pupils in other districts. Agriculture may be dropped from next year’s local course if funding changes persist.
Harvey Wohlgamuth died at 5 10 in his home four miles south of town after a two year battle with throat cancer. Funeral services were held at his home with Rev Howard of Forest Church of God officiating. Burial followed in St Paul cemetery south of Vanlue. He born September 24 1867 on a Carey area farm. survived by wife Celia Roller, a son Park who died in infancy, three brothers Martin James Simon, and was a member of the Forest Church of God.
Bristoll and Kear's ambulance moved Mrs W J Lefferson from her home on Vance street to the Home and Hospital at Findlay where she submitted to an operation for an abdominal ulcer. She is recovering nicely. Mrs Lefferson and daughter Miss Frances and Mrs E G Snyder went to Findlay with her.
The degree staff will practice Monday at 7 00 PM and bring their uniforms for a final check. Important meeting to follow with inspection set for Thursday evening April 20.
On last Thursday evening the Moose chose Robert Long as dictat or Lavern Wagner as vice dictator J A Walters as prelate RE Kurtz as secretary Henry Pahl as treasurer and John Pahl as trustee Installation is set for the last Thursday in April.
