Akron Canton & Youngstown and Northern Ohio Rail seek reorganization

The Akron Canton & Youngstown and Northern Ohio Railway Co petitioned federal court for permission to reorganize financially under the railroad reorganization act. They report 97 500 dollars in bond and interest due as of April 1 and operate 200 miles of track between Mogadore Ohio and Delphos Ohio with 24 locomotives and 576 freight cars.

Mrs Faber Injured Stepping Into Meter Casing

Last Thursday evening Mrs. Frank Faber of Cleveland stepped into an uncovered water meter casing on Glen avenue and sustained painful strains. Dr S R Bame attended and arranged an X ray at Dr H V Hartman's Findlay office.

Lorene Shisler Undergoes Appendectomy at Findlay

Miss Lorene Shisler daughter of Rev and Mrs R Shisler underwent an appendectomy Friday morning at the Home and Hospital in Findlay. Dr J M Firmin performed the operation and she is convalescing nicely. Her parents accompanied her to Findlay in Goffs invalid coach.

Methodist Church Day Services Opened with Missionary Society

Yesterday afternoon the Foreign Missionary society led devotionals and prayers with Mrs S A Chesebrough in charge. Leaflets read included A Trip to an Indian Village and The Lane School of Mother Craft in India. The Home Missionary society met with Miss Berta Purkey leading devotionals and Nearer My God to Thee sung. A short Ladies Aid business meeting preceded a 5 pm supper served by the April group led by Mrs A Cole. The mid week service at 7 30 closed the day.

Carey Bus Collision Kills Horse After Accident

A Carey school bus driven by Irvin Black side-swiped a wagon owned by Barney Coldiron about 2.5 miles north of Carey on Route 23. One horse was badly injured and died after being driven home. the other horse completed the trip to Carey.

Cantata Easter Night at Memorial Evangelical

Memorial Evangelical choir directed by Mrs. W R Shisler will present the cantata Then First Easter by Edith Sanford Tillotson and Ira Bishop Wilson on Easter night at 8:00. Passion week services run Tuesday to Thursday at 8:00, with Thursday night joint communion service of Memorial and St Paul churches featuring candle and cross light. Public invited to all services.

Lenten Services and Confirmation Classes at Local Churches

The Lutheran church schedules Lenten service at 7:30 p m with the junior choir. A confirmation class will be held Sunday at 10:30 a m and a reunion of eight years of classes from 1925 is planned with seating for each class. The junior and senior choirs will sing. A Lenten cantata from Findlay will be performed at First Lutheran in Findlay Sunday evening and at First Lutheran in Tiffin Friday. Services continue Wednesday and Thursday next week at 7:30 p m with Holy Communion Thursday. Good Friday service is 1:30 to 3:00 p m at Memorial Evangelical with Seven Last Words meditations. Easter Sunday early service at 6:30 a m.

Mrs Lucinda M Rogers 75 Passes After 10 Day Illness

Mrs Lucinda M Montague Rogers age 75 died at the county home north of town Monday at 5 45 p m after a 10 day illness. Born Carey January 3 1858 she was daughter of William and Elizabeth Cushman Montague. Survived by adopted daughter Mrs Ray Chester and granddaughter Madge Chester of Sycamore and brother Ellis M Montague of Tiffin. two brothers preceded her. Funeral Wednesday at Staum Moore Sycamore with Rev C F Brouse officiating. burial in Sycamore cemetery.

Deny State Delay for Beer Permits

Columbus April 4 after a meeting with Gov White L L Faris temporary director of the Ohio Liquor Control Commission said issuance of permits would be pushed rapidly and be ready when the 32 per cent beer law becomes effective at midnight Thursday. He planned to issue temporary permits if necessary and Gov White announced a fourth control commission member would be named to provide a quorum. Reports that permits would be delayed were denied.

Carey Schools Close Monday Amid Budget Crisis

The Carey school board voted four to one to close the public schools Monday forenoon due to a $9,500 deficit from delinquent taxes and withheld intangible tax. State aid debates, bond fund restrictions, and a plan to keep seniors in class for graduation are discussed with Supt. Arnholt and officials touring with state education leaders.

Twin Daughters Born to FreMont Couple

Mr and Mrs Otto Wasserman of Fremont welcomed twin daughters Ruth Margaret and Rita Marie on March 27, each weighing 7 pounds. Mrs Wasserman is daughter of Mr and Mrs H L Pahl. The couple already has a 5 year old daughter. A 60-pound baby girl, Darlene Ann, was born Saturday to Mr and Mrs Herman Boes of Tiffin and christened at St Joseph's church with Mr Niederkohr as sponsor.

Florida tourist surge cheered by bright weather in St. Petersburg

George Ash reports that 3216 more tourists registered in St. Petersburg than last season. He notes no signs of low mood as daily weather stays sunny with an average 80 degree day and 65 degree nights over two months.

Kiwanis Achievement Meeting Welcomes Four New Members

The Carey Kiwanis club held an achievement meeting at the Galt Hotel Monday evening. Four new members were welcomed since January 1: R. B. Hamler, Rev. A. C. Rainsherser, ae W. R. Ane ter and Atty local. Dr. L. Harding of Bellevue spoke on the Meaning of the Flag of Canada, linking international Kiwanis ties to the United States and Canada. A reception committee was named for the April 10 meeting.

Excellent Lenten Cantata Draws Large Audience

An audience of over 6500 attended the Lenten cantata The Story of the Cross at Christ Lutheran church. The combined choirs from First Lutheran Findlay and Carey, directed by William T. Platt Jr., presented a vivid portrayal of Christ’s crucifixion with 65 voices and soloists from Findlay, Carey, and Tiffin. The program featured Miss Elsie Howard on organ and will be repeated at First Lutheran in Tiffin and Findlay on successive evenings.
