Food Stamp Plan Offered To Grocers

The surplus marketing administration of the United States department of agriculture offers the food stamp plan to Carey grocers for relief recipients. The plan, in operation for about two years, would let public assistance cases buy orange stamps equal to their normal food purchases and the government matches 50 cents in blue stamps per dollar. Orange stamps buy any food, blue stamps buy surplus farm products listed by the USDA. Local decisions are pending with lists posted in cooperating stores. The plan would boost relief families’ food purchases by about half.
