High School Film Week Ends Easter Break With Historic Travelogue

Public School News reports students returned to school after Easter vacation and enjoyed three educational films shown in assembly. Sixth graders visited to view the films. The lineup included Meat and Romance, Romance of Louisiana, and The New Oregon Trail.

Wyandot County Contestants in W C T U State Plan Event

Mrs Myrtle Perkins leads Wyandot county entrants in the W C T U contest set for April 23 in Fostoria. From 33 unions across Wyandot Seneca Hancock and Crawford counties three members per county compete with a state official moderating and scores kept to pick the top team. Warm April Weather Relieved by Morning Showers

Carey and surrounding areas report the warmest early April in years with highs up to 85 degrees and dry conditions. An early Wednesday morning shower brought welcome relief to farmers and gardeners in the community.

Carey School Board Plans Recreation Center and Tunnel Project

At its April meeting the Carey school board agreed to accept National Youth Administration help for several projects. Plans include an outdoor recreation center for tennis volleyball and basketball plus new concrete walks and bicycle racks. A tunnel between the high school and Col Crawford buildings may ease boiler and steam line issues. Teacher hiring for next year was postponed until May.

Legion to Host County Meeting in Carey

Earl Green Post 344 of the American Legion will host a county wide meeting at their hall on S Vance street Tuesday evening. Posts from Upper Sandusky Sycamore and Nevada will attend with Carl L Smith Elyria district commander and Orin Schmitz Columbus veterans replacement representative addressing the gathering. Father Son Banquet at Methodist Church Tonight

Community fathers and sons gather at 6 45 PM at the Methodist church for a WSCS hosted banquet. Rev William Alexander of Arcadia headlines with a humorous address. Do W Lanning and Thomas A Beckwith serve as emcees. Herold Luzader replies for the sons. Musical features include group singing, a trumpet solo by Eugene Ulrich and a boys quintet led by Calvin Thome, Joe Dible Jr, Donald Woods, Junior Huston, and Robert Strahm.

Carey Man Appointed Acting Roadmaster

Due to illness of A M Johnson roadmaster of the Akron Canton and Youngstown railway Cyril M Brown of Carey track foreman and formerly track supervisor for the company has been appointed acting roadmaster until Johnson can return to duty. Brown will be headquartered at Carey.

Dene Stinson and his radio orchestra will perform at the Eagles hall for a dance on Saturday night, April 19. The public is invited to attend.

Grand Opening of the Economy Store

The Economy Store under Theodore Myers announced its grand opening this week after remodeling. A new tile front fronts the room and stock is fully replenished with spring arrivals, including a candy department. Snyder Lumber Co. built the front, H M Bowman wired the shop, and R M Lonsway insures the stock and fixtures.

Wyandot County Men Drafted for 10th Call

Seven Wyandot county youths answered draft call No 10 and rode from Upper Sandusky to Ft Hayes Columbus. The group included Clifford Mayford Holden Lewis Donald Fabiani Carey Wilfred John Vent Upper Sandusky Richard Weldon Knapp Harpster William Ross Ennis Sycamore Clayton Orus Jones Forest and Albert Earl Monroe Nevada. They were entertained by the draft board at an Upper Sandusky restaurant as Ohio pushes to meet its quota by June 30.

Wyandot County Fair Plans for 1941 Underway

Harry Hudson of Upper Sandusky, secretary of the Wyandot county fair, reports ongoing preparations for the 1941 fair. He notes that performers Lulubelle and Scotty from the Boone County Jamboree at Hollywood will return to Ohio in time for the event. The American Automobile Racing Association plans several race meets at the fairgrounds, with the first set for Sunday April 27.

Mother and Daughter Become Mothers in Findlay Hospital

In Findlay Findlay hospital a son born to Mrs Orville Nye 39 of Carey and less than 15 hours later her daughter in law Mrs Mabrel Risner 21 of Carey became the mother of a daughter. The Nye baby is the 14th child for Mrs Nye. The Risner baby weighs 8 pounds 7 ounces and is named Linda Jayne.

High School Bitten by Bat Leaves Student Injured

Barbara Kitzler daughter of Mr and Mrs B F Kitzler suffered painful injuries at Carey High School during activity hour when struck in the mouth by a ball bat. A front tooth was broken, seven teeth loosened and fragments were displaced.

Carey Philharmonic Plans Seventh Annual Concert at Methodist Church

The Carey Philharmonic society presents its seventh annual concert at the Methodist church on Tuesday evening April 22 at 8 o clock. Policeman's Ball At Catholic Hall Attracts Public Invite

Carey police force hosts a second annual policemans ball this Thursday evening at the Catholic hall. Ernie Duffield and his Fostoria orchestra provide the music with Donna Volkmer as featured soloist. Admission is 50 cents and the public is urged to attend. C and O Crossing Device Completed in Carey

The C and O railroad completed a new interlocking system at the Carey crossing replacing the 1877 signal setup. Two new clerks start at the Carey depot, and the ticket office operates 4 30 a m to midnight. The upgrade allows faster C and O trains through Carey with safety stops for New York Central and A C and Y trains when crossing is active.

Chaplain Wappner to Preach at Christ Lutheran Church

The Rev Martin Wappner chaplain of the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield will preach at the 10 30 service this Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church. He is a Lutheran pastor of the Synod of Ohio USCA and left Kent for Mansfield years ago to serve at the reformatory. Pastor Paul R Clouser’s last Sunday before leaving for Middletown PA will be April 27. the church council granted a leave of absence over April 20.
