District Drama and Poetry Reading Contest at Carey

Carey High School hosts district drama and poetry contests on April 13 with classes BY and C entrants from Carey North Baltimore Columbus Grove Ottawa and New London. An impartial out of town judge from Heidelberg College oversees events. Winners advance to state finals at Ohio State University April 16 and 17. a local poetry prelimions April 9 selects three of about 15 contestants.

Illness and accident hit high school staff

Two teachersMiss Marion Shook home economics and band director Lewis Hawkmissed nearly a week due to illness and an auto crash near Chesterhill Ohio on March 26. Shook suffered sprained ankles and other injuries. Her mother was injured, sister Hazel Shook sprained her back. Shook returned to school April 5 with a baton led by Pastor Wade H Koons.

Crawford Society Meets for Rural Life Program at Church

The Crawford Woman's Society of Christian Service met Friday night with 8 present. Mrs. Wendell Wenting led the business session and read a poem. A service honored Spiritual Life secretary-elect Mrs. Harvey Savidge. The program, led by Mrs. Delmer Lortz, featured talks on Rural Life, Scripture reading, poems, and prayers by Rev. The advanced voice pupils of Miss Marian L Wert of Tiffin presented an all Jerome Kern program for the Woman's club. Mary Gaster of Carey sang solos Yesterdays and You Are Love and performed Look for the Silver Lining in a duet and in chorus numbers. A lunch followed and each pupil received a gardenia corsage.

McChesney consults specialist at Flower Hospital Toledo

Mr and Mrs S W McChesney and children Eleanor Samuel Ill and Mignon visited Toledo on Monday afternoon where Mr McChesney consulted Dr J W Rae at Flower Hospital. The physician spoke enthusiastically about training him to reuse a paralyzed arm. He will return periodically for treatment.

Leaks located in service lines near Soda Grill and Rexall Drug

Last week Ohio Fuel Gas Co traced gas leaks in service lines in the business section. Gas had collected in meter boxes and holes were drilled in the pavement until leaks were found in the service lines into the Soda Grill and Mapes Rexall Drug.

The state highway department has decided no street widening in the business section of Carey after parallel parking was enforced. The decision disappoints many residents but promises new sidewalks and a new White Way in the area.
