Carey High School hosts district drama and poetry contests on April 13 with classes BY and C entrants from Carey North Baltimore Columbus Grove Ottawa and New London. An impartial out of town judge from Heidelberg College oversees events. Winners advance to state finals at Ohio State University April 16 and 17. a local poetry prelimions April 9 selects three of about 15 contestants.
Carey G A A defeated Upper Sandusky G A A 57 to 19 on Wednesday March 31. A postgame potluck in the cafeteria was held for both teams. Coaches are Miss Hull for Carey and Mrs Lauer for Upper Sandusky.
Two teachersMiss Marion Shook home economics and band director Lewis Hawkmissed nearly a week due to illness and an auto crash near Chesterhill Ohio on March 26. Shook suffered sprained ankles and other injuries. Her mother was injured, sister Hazel Shook sprained her back. Shook returned to school April 5 with a baton led by Pastor Wade H Koons.
A meeting to organize a Cub Pack will be held at the Methodist church on Tuesday April 13 at 7 30 p m Parents of boys ages 9 10 and 11 who wish their sons to join Cub Scouts are urged to attend with the boys as the gathering is very important.

Rev. E. J. Haldeman of Edison will lead evangelistic services at Beech Grove E U B Church south of Carey from April 12 to 25 nightly except Saturday. Special music planned. Rev. Don B. Bennett of Wharton is the church pastor. Public invited.
The Crawford Woman's Society of Christian Service met Friday night with 8 present. Mrs. Wendell Wenting led the business session and read a poem. A service honored Spiritual Life secretary-elect Mrs. Harvey Savidge. The program, led by Mrs. Delmer Lortz, featured talks on Rural Life, Scripture reading, poems, and prayers by Rev. Worthman and others.
The advanced voice pupils of Miss Marian L Wert of Tiffin presented an all Jerome Kern program for the Woman's club. Mary Gaster of Carey sang solos Yesterdays and You Are Love and performed Look for the Silver Lining in a duet and in chorus numbers. A lunch followed and each pupil received a gardenia corsage.
Mr and Mrs S W McChesney and children Eleanor Samuel Ill and Mignon visited Toledo on Monday afternoon where Mr McChesney consulted Dr J W Rae at Flower Hospital. The physician spoke enthusiastically about training him to reuse a paralyzed arm. He will return periodically for treatment.
The Village of Carey enforces Ordinance No. 10 requiring all dogs to be kept tied up. Owners allowing dogs to run at large will be prosecuted. Henry Pieracini, Chief of Police. 11-14
Last week Ohio Fuel Gas Co traced gas leaks in service lines in the business section. Gas had collected in meter boxes and holes were drilled in the pavement until leaks were found in the service lines into the Soda Grill and Mapes Rexall Drug.
Women of Wyandot county are invited to attend Achievement Day in Upper Sandusky on April 8. Morning sessions occur in the high school auditorium and afternoon sessions in St. Pauls Lutheran church.
The 29th anniversary of Earl Green Post No 344 American Legion will be observed with a dinner and dance on Thursday evening April 8 at 7 at the Catholic hall. Dinner at 7, program and quartet entertainment, dancing from 9 to 12, Foster Schrenk and his orchestra of Upper Sandusky will provide music. The Vanlue P T A will host an evening program on Tuesday April 13 at 8 00 featuring devotions led by Mrs Parke Fiegel group singing by Mrs Evert Lee music by the Senior Band reading by Mrs Lester Habeggar a Heck Family talk by Miss Adeline McClelland head of Bowling Green State University speech and hearing clinic and a Band Mothers club award to the Senior Band Officers will be elected refreshments by the Heck family who are asked to bring jello or cookies P T A women invited to sew robes at school with Mrs Bafr arranging evening sewing
The Ohio Mill Stream quartet of Findlay will sing several numbers at the concert to be given Tuesday evening April 27 in the Catholic hall by the Carey Philharmonic society. The quartet includes Jess Hanna Arthur Woodford Russell Barnhill Harley Dreisbach Mrs Neil Baldwin. The concert will open at 8 o clock.

The Jennie Larmonth Missionary Society of Christ Lutheran church will meet Monday evening April 12 at 8 o'clock in Mrs Russel Gottfried’s home 575 West Street. The topic will be The World to Christ We Bring through Teaching.
Harley Rothgeb is constructing a four room house on High street beside the residence of Mr. and Mrs Ray Stroub. The project proceeds on a quiet residential block with no reported setbacks.
Rebecca Jean Lear daughter of Mr and Mrs George Lear formerly of Carey now Findlay will perform ballet at the annual Philharmonic concert on Tuesday April 27 at 8 00 in the Carey Catholic hall. She studies with Mildred Aulbbey of Lima and is welcomed back by numerous friends who recall her Carey dance appearances.
Arthur N Stevens of Carey Ohio was admitted as an individual Realtor member of the Ohio Association of Real Estate Boards. His election also makes him a member of the National Association of Realtors and allows use of the Realtor term. The Ohio association has 67 local boards, 2520 Realtor members, and 2197 associates.
Carey chapter 600 of Women of the Moose held its April 6 meeting at the usual venue. Reports were accepted and Edith Kitzler and Mildred Long led April activities. A May card party after the lodge supports Mooseheart nurses in training. donations are requested.

Mr and Mrs Paul Reinhart and children Paul Tommy and Donna Jean moved to St Petersburg Florida last Thursday They held a farm sale at their former Carey area home eight miles north on Saturday March 27 The Reinharts plan permanent residence in Florida where Mrs Reinhart's parents Mr and Mrs Grover Hile reside
The local review of the W. B A will hold a regular meeting Friday evening April 9 at 8 15 o'clock. Following lodge a potluck dinner will be served. Social committee members are Mrs E G Snyder Mrs Wallace Shaffer and Mrs D D DeVene. All officers and members are urged to be present.
Mrs Ruth Brown and Mrs A Myers attended the Lauritz Melchior concert at the State theatre in Toledo last Thursday evening. Miss Mattie Myers visited from Thursday to Sunday with Prof and Mrs R Beitler and their son Richard in Columbus. Prof and Mrs Beitler and their son brought her home. Dr and Mrs C R Conley visited in Fostoria on Monday afternoon with Mrs Asa Conley and Mrs Richard Conley and with Mr and Mrs Glenn Conley and their children in Rising Sun.
The Friendly Challengers class of the Methodist Sunday school postponed their Thursday evening gathering with Mr and Mrs Charles Peters due to the death of George Gardner.
Moose team conducts softball practice on Friday April 9 at 6 o clock on the students field.
A daughter born Friday at 10 30 p m to Mr and Mrs Robert Feasel of Frederick street is named Diane Louise. A son named Richard Allen arrived early Friday morning for Mr and Mrs Leonard Niederkohr of N W Eighth street Upper Sandusky, mother Cathy Stief of North Upper Sandusky. Mr Niederkohr is son of Mr and Mrs William Niederkohr of Carey area. A 6 pound 8 ounce daughter by Caesarean section arrived Monday at 9 56 a m at Bucyrus City hospital for Mr and Mrs John Fritchie of Upper Sandusky. This is their second child and first daughter. mother Geraldine Simonis, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Simonis of West Findlay street Carey.
The Rev. Wade H. Koons of Christ Lutheran Church will speak at the Luther club of Hope Lutheran Church Fostoria next Sunday evening. The gathering is a potluck supper and program for young adults. Members of Christ Church Young Adult Lutheran group will join Pastor Koons.
The state highway department has decided no street widening in the business section of Carey after parallel parking was enforced. The decision disappoints many residents but promises new sidewalks and a new White Way in the area.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Shantz sold their 7 room house at 637 E Findlay Street to Mr and Mrs James Gatchell of southwest of Carey who plan to move soon. Sale handled by Arthur N Stevens, realtor. The former occupants Mr and Mrs George W Pickens have moved into a home they built on W North Street.
Sunday afternoon Mrs Sylvester Myers returned home from Mercy hospital Tiffin in the Golf ambulance. Mrs Henry Pieracini Miss Eugenia Schmitz Mrs Clyde Jenkins and Mrs Richard Frederick spent Monday in Columbus. Mrs Catherine Baker returned home after months in Findlay with her daughter Mrs Helen Haley. Mrs George Holman of Cincinnati visited relatives here from Friday to Sunday due to the illness of her father J A Newcomer who died Tuesday. She and her husband returned to attend the funeral. Mrs S B Chesebrough spent the winter in Toledo with Dr and Mrs J W Cosgray who returned home last Wednesday and accompanied Mrs Cosgray back to Toledo the same day.
The annual inspection of Crawford Chapter No. 168, OES, will be conducted Friday evening April 16 with Mrs. Florence Stindinger of Galion deputy grand matron of Ohio as inspecting officer. A dinner for officers precedes the meeting at Trubey's. Current local officers are listed.

The Carey Band Mothers club will host an evening event at the high school on Friday April 23 for band members and their families. Activities include games for younger attendees and dancing for adults. No invitations are issued. all band members and parents are urged to attend.
