Public notice of mailing matter class under act of Congress March 8 1879 lists Milton F Brown Jr and Peggy Florida in Cameron Texas. Publication appears weekly with Milam County yearly rate 1 75, outside county 2 00, out of state 2 25.
Clarkson held its annual Cemetery Association and Homecoming Sunday on October 10 with over 100 attendees. Morning and afternoon programs featured congregational singing solos quartets and readings. Reverend D A Jones of Fort Worth delivered the morning message and Reverend Lewis Newman of Burlington Baptist Church spoke in the afternoon. Lunch at the Recreation Center followed. Visitors came from Fort Worth Dallas Waco Houston Yorktown Bryan Austin Milano Rosebud Cameron Briary Ben Arnold and Burlington.
Milam County Health Unit reports five new throat infections for the week ending October 16, up from two the prior week. Dr. John B. Bryson notes additional illnesses including two shi gellosis cases, plus measles chickenpox mumps and syphilis among other health concerns.
A reader thanks the publisher for space to state a position on parking meters and the city officials plan to prosecute the author as a top offender. The writer points out most tickets concern meters on the east side of the Courthouse square.
Charles C. Smith Jr. urges Cameron officials to hold a public vote on courthouse square parking meters after a petition of 185 qualified voters sought an election. He accuses the city of secrecy and unequal enforcement and calls for revenues to fund street improvements. Temple visitors noted.
Mrs. Emily W. Boyd of the Texas Tuberculosis Association will meet Milam County Health Unit and Welfare representatives on October 21 at 2 30 p m in the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce to discuss establishing a Milam County Tuberculosis Association. The goal is local control, funding from Christmas Seals, and alignment with state and national groups to prevent and treat TB and reduce deaths. Milam has seen fifty four new TB cases and seventeen deaths in five years, with twelve new cases and three deaths since 1954. A local association would bolster medical efforts and community education in the fight against TB.
