Milam County Institute to be Demolished in Cameron

The Milam Liberal Institute building on West 2nd Street Cameron will be taken down and repurposed. The 1891 cornerstone will be preserved and opened at ceremonies led by Dr. C. G. Swift with school officials.

Cameron Council Orders Parking Meters for Down Town

City Attorney Roy Baskin says cases will be filed soon against owners of unpaid parking tickets issued before September 11. Meters, installed in 1950 to ease downtown congestion, have cost over $900 monthly to the street fund. Funeral Services Held for Julia Smith October 14

Miss Julia Smith sister of the late Mrs. Jake Ralston died Wednesday in St Edwards Hospital. Funeral services were held October 14 at 10 a.m. from Marek Burns Funeral Chapel with Reverend Aubrey Russell officiating. She is survived by a host of nephews and nieces.

Five Men Inducted in Dallas on October 14

Five men left Cameron for the Dallas induction station on Thursday October 14 and three others were transferred to other boards. Leaving for Dallas were James W Burnett William C Petty Shelby G Smith Walter O Kelm and Lem Homer. Transfers were Luther L Pittman James D Crayton and Willie Moore. Walter O Kelm of Burlington led the group scheduled to arrive in Dallas at 1 32 p m.

Harris visits Cameron family in Waco homes

H. F. Harris of Cameron stayed with his daughter Mrs. Rita Maddox and his son Edgar Harris in Waco last week. Miss Mary Jane Matula is reported recovering from surgery at St. Edward Hospital and is employed with Dr. Kruse.

Baskin Wins Verdict with Appeal Anticipated

Judge O D Graham awarded Julian P Baskin $1031.39 plus 6 percent interest and costs against Claude Triggs after a district court suit. Triggs appeals to the Court of Civil Appeals in Austin. Baskin claimed cotton purchased from tenant C F Gilbert, who held a one fourth lien, and Gilbert resold Baskin’s crop grown on 206 acres for 3494 dollars with seed sold for 555.92 dollars, leaving Baskin unpaid. Dan Scarborough Funeral Rites Set For Friday

Dan M. Scarborough, 81, of Ben Arnold died Thursday at St. Edwards Hospital. He was a retired Miami County farmer and Baptist. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Greens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev A F Russell officiating. Interment 3 p.m. Saturday at New Bethlehem Cemetery near Conroe. Survivors include his wife four sons five daughters two siblings and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Slaughters to Observe Golden Anniversary Saturday

Mr and Mrs J L Slaughter of 1702 North Travis Street will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary Saturday October 23 at home. Plans were cancelled when Mr Slaughter fell ill. The couple married exactly 50 years ago in Ben Arnold with a relatives only ceremony. They later lived in Ben Arnold Cameron and on South Crockett Street before moving to their current North Travis home where they have resided 29 years.

Its Ideal white leghorns took first, second, fourth and seventh in Breeding Chicken, with the top pen named Grand Champion Exhibit and Best Breeder trophies.
