Buckholts Founded In 1880s Rail Era in Milam County
Buckholts grew from the Gulf Colorado and Santa Fe Railway expansion in Milam County. The town centers on the depot area with early landmarks including the first post office opened 1882, first store Felix Blankenship, and first doctor C W Macune. John Abel Buckholts donated land for the depot right of way and town lots began selling in 1881. The Methodist church formed in 1898, dedicated later by Bishop Hendricks, with early education led by Mrs Sarah M Joyce and local teacher EARLY TEACHER Will Save.
