Speaker outlines eight foundations of America for Cameron clubs

Robert W. Lawrence, American Heritage speaker, told Cameron Lions Rotary and Kiwanis that eight bases form America's foundation as taught in schools. He warned of a global communist threat, cited Marx and Khrushchev, and urged individual rights, religious faith, private property, fair competition, and protection of God given rights.

McCullin Details Kerrville Crippled Children’s Camp

A. W. McCullin outlines the Kerrville Crippled Children's Camp run by Texas Lions Clubs. About 700 children attend each summer for ages 7 to 16 with various disabilities, plus 60 blind adults assisted year-round. Since 1953 the camp has hosted over 5,000 youngsters and operates five summer sessions on 504 hillside acres near Kerrville.

St Anthony’s Civics Club Receives Official Charter

The St. Anthony’s Civics Club was awarded its official charter from the Commission on American Citizenship in Washington. The charter links the local unit with the national organization through the Catholic University of America. Grades seven and eight pupils comprise the club with officers Carol Terry president Lanelle Darby vice president Monica Mikula recording secretary Margaret Zotz corresponding secretary and Dennis Jistil sergeant at arms.

Fire Destroys Home Furnishings on South Rusk St

A frame house owned by Mrs. Pearl Taylor on South Rusk Street Cameron burned Tuesday afternoon. Firemen fought the blaze as most interior furnishings were destroyed. no occupants were home at the time.

Newton Memorial Hospital pillars rise and roof supports planned despite rain. Citizens National Bank work nears completion with drive in and interior remodeling. Humplik Farm and Ranch Store repainted. Dennis Kubecka builds new radio TV service center. About 30 Cameron entities remodeled or constructed in past 12 months. City sets year total near one million dollars in largest program in memory. Mondriks Minimax interior refinishing ongoing.

Thanksgiving Eve Service Opens Cameron Holiday Observance

Special Services were held Wednesday at Battetown Baptist Church led by Cameron Ministerial Alliance pastors. The Rev Jewel Strong gave a Thanksgiving sermon and Rev E H Bradfield gave the invocation. Cameron stores closed for Thanksgiving with plans to stay open Thursday nights in December until 7 30. The annual Christmas parade was announced for December 8 at 7 p m with about four floats two bands and seven other units already entered and an expected turnout near 7500. Santa will visit downtown Cameron as the parade draws crowds for the holiday season.

Teen Canteen Organized For Cameron Youth

The Youth Council of the First Methodist Church in Cameron inaugurates a Saturday night Youth Canteen for all high school students in the community. Canteen hours run 7 to 11 p.m in the Fellowship Hall with a separate 6 15 to 7 45 p.m. option for fourth through sixth graders. Registration and a 10 cent entrance fee are required, with adults including Mr and Mrs Stewart Perkins Mr and Mrs Dana Monroe and Mr and Mrs RH Foster leading the effort and parents assisting. Donations of game equipment such as ping pong tables are welcome.

Last Rites Held For Mrs Mondrik Heart Victim

Mrs. Frank C. Mondrik died of a heart attack Sunday at age 75 in Cameron. Funeral at 4 p.m. Monday at First Methodist Church with Reverends Jewel Strong and Gordon Gudger officiating. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Survivors include two sons Abyvin Mondrik and Dr Frank Mondrik, two daughters Lillian Lester and Ethel Drgac, brother Ernest Kahler, sister Matilda Kahler, two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Last Rites Held For Mrs Tomasek Drowning Victim

Funeral services were held for Mrs Frank Tomasek Jr 50 of Rt 1 Cameron who died in an accidental drowning in a surface well at her farm home. The Rev John Baletka officiated at Green Chapel. Burial was in Corinth Cemetery. She was born December 25 1909 in Jones County Texas and had lived in Milam County all her life. Surviving are her husband, daughter Evelyn, son Richard, three brothers Rudolph Robert and Henry, and sister Albina Janicek.

Mrs. S W Cheeves 86 died at her Cameron home after months of illness. Funeral services 2 p m Monday at Green Funeral Home chapel with Rev Jewel Strong officiating. Burial Oak Hill Cemetery. Born September 6 1874 Falls County Texas she married S W Cheeves and moved to Cameron in 1905. Surviving three daughters one brother one sister seven grandchildren nine great grandchildren. Pallbearers named.

Dr. T. E. Crump Celebrated on Milestone Birthday

Cameron physician Dr. T. E. Crump was feted by the Sisters of Charity at St Edward's Hospital for his birthday. A Milam County native educated at Rockdale Cameron Southwestern University and the University of Tennessee he practiced in Rockdale and Cameron since 1926. He served in World War I and held multiple public health and medical society roles in Milam County. He is active in the Cameron Chamber of Commerce Knights of Pythias and Masonic Lodge.
