Court Refuses Milam Road Right of Way Purchase
Commissioners voted unanimously against paying for the right of way on Highway 77 from Elm Creek bridge to Burlington. Lack of funds cited after petitions with hundreds of signatures sought up to 5000 dollars. An earlier state appropriation of 53357.54 was granted to Milam County for a total project cost of 75000 to 250000 dollars, to be built with local labor to ease unemployment. The Cameron Commercial Club backed the petition led by Frank S. Lesovsky and Judge T. S. Henderson, opposed by J. K. Freeman and Nick McBurnett.
