The Commercial Club met to discuss Cameron improvements including road building lighting freight service sidewalks and a proposed gas manufacture from fuel oil. Meetings are at 7 30 p m in the District Court room and civic plans mirror a busy political year with poll tax reminders and Armistice Day considerations. Two men were arrested with help from City Marshal Lucas and Officer McKay in a Cameron rail yard heist linked to a locked mail pouch missing since last Saturday night. The sack contained securities about 26000 dollars and checks and drafts from Citizens National Bank, Robt. McLane Co., and A. N. Weems. No arrests made on the suitcase theft at Buckholts. investigation continues as banks flag every forged or presented draft.

Armistice Day Observed in Cameron With Legion Plan

Armistice Day activities are planned in Cameron on Monday with a school program at 9 to 10 am led by the American Legion and Yee High School. Legion members will march from the hall to the school, then return for a social hour. A Cameron Rockdale baseball game will be played on the Cameron field. The commercial club will consider funding at Friday night’s meeting.

Halloween vandalism hits Milam County bridges and crops

Heavy damage reports from 1923 Halloween vandalism show about $200 in property loss with many bridges destroyed as youths filled streets with piled boxes and even toppled automobiles. Milam County cotton output up sharply with about 60,000 bales projected. 49,168 bales ginned by Oct 18, 1923, vs 49,796 the prior year, suggesting a prosperous period for farmers.

Better lighting for Cameron business district assured

The Cameron business district will gain improved lighting as merchants on a key block subscribe to installation and maintenance. Civic leaders T. S. Henderson Jr. and Giles L. Arriett canvassed merchants from Palace of Sweets to Auditorium Hotel and J D Dobbins Grocery to Triges Dry Goods, with the city funding six lights on store awnings to illuminate fronts and streets.

Lions Club to Assist In Texas Conference Entertainment

The Lions Club voted to cooperate with the Methodist church in hosting hundreds of delegates for the Texas Conference opening November 20. 16 Hour Freight Service From Houston Inaugurated

A sixteen hour freight package car service from Houston over the Santa Fe railroad to Cameron starts with nightly departures at 10 PM and arrivals at 2 PM. The program aims to speed shipments both ways, with agent H C Keith coordinating with freight officials to make the schedule possible.

Trial of Ed Beard Ends Without Verdict at Thorndale

The jury failed to reach a verdict in the Ed Beard murder trial after a week of testimony.
