Oliphant Murder Trial Could Go to Jury Thursday
A. Oliphant, Briary farmer, faces murder charges in the Sept. 24 death of O. Segrest after an examining trial in which Oliphant claimed he killed Segrest believing him to be the father of his daughter's child. Segrest was shot in a field. Oliphant surrendered to the sheriff in Cameron. The case is before the court this week with Henderson, Kidd & Henderson for the defense and District Attorney Jack Lewis, assisted by Roy Baskin, for the prosecution.

Old Deed Recalls Early History of Milam County Land
An 1868 deed issued by Governor E. M. Pease to George M. Gilland for 165 000 varas in Milam County on the Yegua is preserved as a photo copy. The article recalls early county history and a 1874 arson wave that burned Cameron and Richmond courthouses to destroy records. New filings show Governor Neff issuing 54 acres to J. P. Looney and 56 acres to J. W. Hamblem, marking the Looney and Hamblem grants.

Rockdale Man Shot In Store Accident
Sanford Gore, about 50, wounded Tuesday in Rockdale by accidental discharge of a gun he was examining at a store. Clerk Jeff Warren had offered the gun for sale. the bullet penetrated the liver, requiring surgery at Cameron Hospital, Gore in critical condition with hopes of recovery.

Receptions Held for Pastor Hutcherson at Baptist Church

Mrs. Fred Henry Dies at Home in Cameron
Mrs. Fred Henry died Wednesday morning November 7 1923 at nine o’clock after several months of illness. She had recently returned from a visit with her parents near Backholts seeking health improvement. The funeral was held at the home Thursday morning at ten conducted by Rev H R McFadyen with services at the house and family attendance. The body was taken to Henne Meyer undertaking parlors and returned to the home for visitation.

Funeral service for Cameron resident held at local church
The body was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery after a home service attended by many and a large Cameron crowd. Fred Henry and his wife were longtime residents of Cameron. Henry served as keeper of record and seal for the Knights of Pythias lodge in Cameron, with a Knights delegation keeping watch at the home and attending the funeral.
