Gas levy to fund state budget via natural gas tax rise
A Texas tax bill to raise 65 million dollars in new money was approved by a House Senate conference committee. The plan doubles the natural gas production tax to a flat ten percent of value at the well and raises the franchise tax on corporations from 1.10 to 1.25 per thousand. Committees called it a compromise as lawmakers debated pipeline taxes and rural road funding while preserving farm-to-market road programs and excluding Hull-Wick pipeline tax provisions. If both chambers approve, the 52nd Legislature could adjourn this week.
