Engineers began work on the rural telephone project this week as Southwestern Bell assigns William Orrison Company to handle the contracting work. Walter May of Southwestern Bell will supervise, with C L Carson noting rapid completion as surveyors Jack Keller and J L Barnes wrap up their rural subscriber contacts next week.

Milam County Peanut Growers Get 1951 Price Support
Milam County farmers receive an average price support of at least 230.56 per ton for 1951 quota peanuts, up from 1950. The base price is 225 for Spanish peanuts with 70 percent mature kernels, with premiums, discounts, and eligibility rules outlined by Paul C. Graves, chairman of the county PMA. Quota peanuts with limited damage or moisture qualify, and loans or purchases by CCC contract warehouses may support farmer stock peanuts.

Oscar Offield 51 died from self inflicted shotgun wound in Tracy Community. Sheriff says death occurred about 2 a m Saturday morning. Justice of the Peace Luther McDonald declared death by own action. Funeral held at Phillip and Lucky Funeral Home Rockdale Sunday May 27 with burial in Rockdale Cemetery. He is survived by his widow and two sons Luther and Boyd.

Floyd Bussa 68 drowned in the Little River near Holtsclaw Bridge on May 29 while taking a drink from the river. A search party found his body lodged under brush about 15 yards from the fall. He lived in Cameron and Ad Hall, survived by siblings and sisters, funeral held May 30 at Liberty Church.

Second Operation Is Necessary for "Blue Baby" from Hearne
Linda Sue Sweaks three year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Claude Sweaks of 405 Mons St Hearne faces a second delicate heart operation next month. The child known as a Blue Baby has a congenital heart condition that surgery can correct. Two years ago Linda underwent her first operation but a follow up is now vital. The family, moved from Cameron, saved funds but cannot cover all costs. Prior efforts raised over 1300 dollars for treatment in Dallas. Local support continues as the Sneaks plan to finance nearly everything with special concessions leaving a balance of about 500 dollars.

Remigio Marquez aged Mexican of Austin was killed instantly at 6 10 AM Tuesday in a two vehicle crash at the US 77 FM 1444 1445 intersection near Burlington The 1951 Ford gravel truck he drove collided with Melvin Otto Janke of Rosebud who was eastbound on Clarkson road Janke escaped injury and did not see the truck until metres away The truck struck Janke s right front wheel and fender then overturned Marquez was thrown and crushed under the vehicle His body was taken to Rosebud by Green Funeral Home Funeral services are pending The accident was investigated by Highway Patrolman Jack Higginbotham and an inquest was held by B G Rice of Ben Arnold
