Grand Jury Indicts Six in Cameron District Court

Six bills of indictment were returned by the Grand Jury in District Court. R. G. Vaughan faces murder and a felonious offense against a minor charge. Edward A. Sexton is indicted for murder. Lawrence E. Holt is charged with robbery using firearms. William P. Ferrell has a second offense drunk driving. Oren E. Prewett and Henry Sage are charged with cattle theft. Grand Jurors include Joe Moore as foreman and members from Cameron, Rockdale, Gause, Buckholts, Milano, and nearby towns.

William Finch to Deliver 1951 Yee High School Sermon

Dr. William C. Finch eleventh president of Southwestern University will give the baccalaureate at Yee High School on May 20 at 8:00 PM at the Athletic Field. Finch, a Virginia native, earned degrees from Hampden-Sydney College Union Theological Seminary and Drew University, with study at Oxford and Zurich.

Blackland Sets Milam County Day at Tempe Temple Farm

Milam County observes Milam County Day at the Blackland Experiment Farm in Temple on Thursday May 31. Roy Wright says the tour showcases research at the Blackland Experiment Station with field crops cover crops and livestock trials. About 250 Milam County farmers and businesspeople attended last year and more are urged to join this year. The 1 PM tour departs Cameron with 12 15 PM assembly at the Cameron courthouse and transportation provided if needed. The event is sponsored by the Blackland Experiment Station and the Chamber of Commerce committees Crops and Conservation and Livestock.

Yee High School 1951 Graduates Set for May Commencement

Yee High School will hold commencement exercises for the 1951 graduating class at the Athletic Field on Tuesday May 22. The senior class includes 62 graduates, among the smallest in years, with Gloria Ann Jungmann valedictorian and Lanelle Kuehl salutatorian. The program features the Yee High Band, speeches by Jungmann Kuehl and others, scholarship awards, and diploma presentations.

Heated council clash over location for new fire station

Cameron heated meeting debates a new municipal building combined with a fire station. Plans drawn in 1945 suggested site options on the old location or North Fannin blocks, with costs around 40000 dollars. Country Club Hosts Annual Open Golf Tournament

Cameron Country Club invites golfers from nearby towns to a Sunday tournament on May 27 with prizes in each flight and a barbecue dinner. Members anticipate a big day with arrangement committees guiding details and a dinner option for non players. Some of central Texas’ top golfers are expected to participate.

Funeral Services Held For Baby Jane Martin

Baby Jane Martin nine months died at the Cameron home May 10 from pneumonia. Twin sister Judy Martin died in April. Survivors include parents Erskine and wife, six brothers James Bobby Wallace Thomas Johnnie Billy, and sister Elizabeth of Cameron. Services at Battetown Baptist Church at 2 p m May 12, burial Milano cemetery. Rev. Bob Walker officiated. Marek Murns directed arrangements.

Cooperation Urged in Rural Telephone Survey

The Rural Telephone Committee met Southwestern Bell reps in the District Courtroom on May 15 to promote a county wide survey of potential rural phone subscribers. C L Carson outlined plans and urged sign ups now to ensure service when lines are laid, with engineers to map out work and a target of rural service possibly by year end. 244 interviews have occurred with 148 signing up from Marlow Salem Hoyte Minerva Silver City Belmena Jones Prairie and nearby areas.
