A Mothers Day feature outlines its May date observance and origins linked to Anna Jarvis. It recounts national proclamations, civic symbolism with the white carnation, and a parable about a good Samaritan builder illustrating community loyalty and patronage.
Local schools observe Yoe Day as a holiday with memorial exercises at the high school auditorium on Thursday morning May 11. Class committees decorated the graves of Mr and Mrs Yoe with floral offerings. Each class staged a recreational feature. Freshmen picnicked at Wayside Sophomores at Buzzard Roost Juniors and Seniors prepared for Senior Day Friday.
The first in a series of good will trips will go to Gause on Thursday night May 18. Cameron merchants and a firm representative are urged to join the caravan leaving Cameron at 5 50 p m and arriving in Gause about 6 15 p m. A music and speaking program is planned with a supper to be served by Gause citizens.
L. F. Gohmert's Variety Store announces a 9c sale to mark ten years in Cameron. The advertisement promotes a Friday morning opening and a sale lasting until Saturday of the following week with hundreds of bargains at popular 9c prices inviting local and regional buyers.
The passage compares betrayal by a once trusted ally to a Native American saying about skins and motives. It shares a fable about a man awakened by a neighbor’s dog only to discover it was his own dog, then shifts to a town where commerce is so poor that even nonpayers stop buying.
The Democratic administration and President Roosevelt's national recovery policy boosted cotton sales. On Tuesday 510 bales sold at 8.68 per pound, totaling 23,059.89 dollars, bought by D. Slaughter and sold to Kreitmar & Hughes of Dallas via S. H. Johnson. Prices rose from May 3 when Fahrendorf paid 8.22 for 904 bales totaling 39,335 dollars. Rising prices across cotton, grain, and commodities reflect the inflation drive of the Roosevelt administration. ten cent cotton this fall is seen as likely.
President L. Van Perkins announced and the Commercial Club approved committees for the year. Good Roads chair Bob Terry leads a group including Dr. W. R. Newton and others. Inter-City chaired by J. D. Baskin. Publicity chaired by Ben Reichert. Finance led by John B. Henderson. Investigation chaired by Ray Burke. Home Industry chaired by A. E. Matula. Civic Improvement led by L. F. Gohmert. Agriculture chaired by Leland Green. Entertainment chaired by Francis Cox. A special committee to keep the post office open on Sundays for P O box holders was named, August Horstmann and F. J. Beckerman.
H W Dodge, born in Cameron, was elected vice president of the Texas Company in New York City. He is the son of the late C P Dodge and Mrs Dodge, and his sister was Judge Jeff T Kemp. Dodge has lived in New York for years and previously served with the Texas Company in an official capacity.
Cameron Hospital announces annual graduation exercises for student nurses on Friday evening May 12 at 8 o'clock in the hospital reception room. Graduating nurses include Elizabeth McLane Faye Peebles and Belle Maxwell.
Charles Roeser oil man and two others attacked Huntsville legislator Gordon Burns as the legislature in Austin opens an investigation. A North and East Texas Press association meeting suggested turning the matter over to Austin city court to avoid a costly probe.
A full house enjoyed the Methodist Women minstrel Friday at Yee High School auditorium under Circle 3 of the Missionary Society. Directors were Mrs. R H McIntosh and Mrs. Winnie Wittliff. Endwomen and soloists provided laughs and music with readers and mascots also featured.
Ben McClellan 71 of Minerva died Tuesday morning May 9 1935 at Cameron Hospital after a heart attack at home. He had suffered for years and several days of decline led to his death. Funeral was Wednesday May 10 1933 at 4 pm from the family residence with Rev C G Condrey and interment in Minerva cemetery.

Bishop C. E. Byrne of Galveston confirmed 109 youths at St. Monica’s Catholic Church assisted by Monsignor Gleisner and several priests from Bryan Marek Westphalia Tours Temple Caldwell and local pastor Geo Apel. The bishop noted parish debt reduction and urged steadfast faith after ordaining Timothy Valenta to priesthood earlier that morning in Corn Hill before departing for Waco Cameron.
Golfers from many points prepared for the 18 hole handicap tournament to be held Sunday at Cameron Country Club. The local club expects one of the largest fields in recent years for the annual course classic with a big turnout and the public invited.
The Cameron Public Schools will close on Monday June 5 with final graduation exercises at the high school. The baccalaureate sermon occurs Sunday evening June 4 and Ada Henderson School graduation is Friday evening June 2. Announcements on commencement programs will follow.
The Grand Jury reports seven days of session in which 176 witnesses were examined and 14 true bills were found, including 10 felonies and four misdemeanors. Jailer and County Poor Farm conditions were reviewed as satisfactory overall with calls for registrar information to the District Attorney.
Mrs. Sarah L Britton 68 died May 9 1953 after a long illness. Funeral services were held May 10 at Walkers Creek Baptist Church Cameron with Rev N D Timmerman officiating. Interment followed in Walkers Creek Cemetery. She was born March 19 1865 in Alabama and survived by four sons C L Britton W C Britton J L Britton B R Britton and daughter Ida Jenness of Cameron. Pallbearers named.
