Catholic Knights report Texas church history project progress

Three Inch Rainfall Brings Value to Milam County

By Thursday noon Milam County measured over three inches of rain with an estimated worth in the millions for this Texas region. Morning totals reached 2.70 inches and more rain followed, with a possible four inch total by night. No damage reported and flood fears lessened as Little River and Elm Creek overflows eased. The rain supports a large corn crop across a wide area.

Reed Rogers Wins Georgetown Tour Golf Meet With 77

Reed Rogers shot a low 77 to win the Georgetown Country Club Tourney and the loving cup. The Cameron Golfers led by Cameron won prizes as Bas­sset Watson placed second in driving neatest and fourth in low net, while Bunt Manning tied for second in low net with sixth, earning balls.

Annual Central Texas Golf Tournament At Cameron Club

The Cameron Country Clubs hosts its annual Central Texas Golf Tournament on June 8 with entrants from Waco Temple Taylor Georgetown Elgin Calvert Giddings Rockdale Lampasas Belton and Bryan. Entry is one dollar with prizes for low net low gross pitching and driving as a large crowd is expected.

Methodist Here Vote Against Pro Repeal

Texas Methodists in the Marlin District annual Conference adopted a resolution against repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment and against legalization of beer and wine. E. L. Ingram presided as Elder. Dr. J. W. Mills preached at 9:30 am. Delegates from seven counties attended. Lunch was served to about 250 delegates. The next conference will be in Gause.

Man Beaten On Highway Dies After Temple Hospital

Adam May a 5 taxi driver died after a Sunday fight near Rosebud. R V Nichols known as Dutch is held in Bell County jail on murder charges. May collapsed during the altercation and died en route to Temple Hospital after an autopsy showed a fractured skull.

Chamber of Commerce Plans Goodwill Tour Schedule

The Chamber of Commerce adopts a schedule of goodwill trips to named towns with the Cameron on all trips. A band will accompany the tours to give a concert in each location. The schedule may change and notice will be given to all towns if altered.

Poppy Sale Saturday Aids Disabled Veterans

The American Legion will run its annual Memorial Day Poppy Sale in Camer on this Saturday. Citizens are urged to buy generously to support veterans and their families, many of whom face community care after July 1 following Executive orders. Rural Graduation Exercises Set for May 29

Graduation for seventh grade pupils from rural schools will be held at Yee High School Monday May 29 at eight o clock. About sixty schools and roughly three hundred students will receive diplomas. Roesler Adjudged Insane and Committed to Austin Asylum

Hugo Roesler a Pettibone area farmer recently shot Deputy Sheriff Horstmann of Buckholts during a warrant arrest for assault. After resisting and firing on Horstmann, he barricaded with his wife and children. Texas Ranger Gene Smith escorted him to the asylum in Austin.

Twenty more workers called for reforestation army

Chairman J. P. Love of the Emergency Relief Association announced 20 more Milam County men are drafted for the reforestation army of America, bringing total called to 26 toward a 75 man county quota. Names span eight precincts including Milano, Thorndale, Rockdale, Buckholts, Tracy, Walkers Creek, Briary, San Gabriel, Cavilla, and Cameron.

Cameron Methodists Mourn Barnett Death

Cameron Methodists mourn the death of W. F. Barnett supervisor of the Orphans Home in Waco. He died in Hillsboro after returning from Arlington where he spoke to the conference and had traveled with the Home’s choir to perform in Cameron.

Cameron Chamber of Commerce Good Will Tour to Milano

The Cameron Chamber of Commerce will conduct its second good will tour to Milano on Friday night May 16 leaving from the Court House at 7 o clock. The trips will continue weekly to visit each Milam county town with varying programs and music provided by the Cameron Municipal Band.

Waco business men on their annual goodwill tour will visit Cameron on June 1 arriving about 1 a.m. They seek no entertainment program and aim to meet Cameron business men before departing shortly after. The delegation includes wholesalers manufacturers and jobbers.
